Summary/Objective:

The Clinical Coordinator is responsible originating, developing, and managing employee staffing functions for the Medical-Surgical Unit and supports staffing needs for the Medical-Surgical Unit within the scope of their license, as needed.

 

This role is responsible for rendering nursing care in assigned area(s) in terms of individualized patient needs, according to dependent and independent nursing functions and conformance with recognized nursing techniques, procedures, and established standards based on the scope of nursing, under the direction/delegation of the Director of Nursing.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Generates monthly staffing schedules for Medical-Surgical unit and posts in a timely Input schedules into the online based schedule platform.
  2. Manages all vacancies, call-outs, and medical or other types of leaves of absences on a daily basis. (See the Director of Nursing for any FMLA request)
  3. Assists Director of Nursing to ensure Communication is fluent withing the department and messages are pushed down to the front-line staff from
  4. Assists the Director of Nursing or other leaders in providing adequate nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, & CNAs by aiding in setting up and conducting interviews and hiring nursing staff.
  5. Assists the Director of Nursing and assigned preceptor for orientation of new hires. (Getting their required documentation submitted to HR to get them access to the computer, Omnicel, Policy Tech, and carelearning, and giving the new hire their competency packet and ensuring it gets completed in a timely manner)
  6. Ensuring the unit has appropriate
  7. Assists and facilitates, as appropriate, communication and collaboration with nursing staff, patients, families, and other departments. Handles complaints and grievances timely and completes all required documentation
  8. Completes payroll bi-weekly with the assistance of other managers and Director of Nursing.
  9. Accountability for time and attendance and tracking of those employees that are calling out. Following through with disciplinary action for any outstanding time and attendance variances.
  10. Back up to the Director of Nursing during any absences or vacation
  11. Communication with the Nursing Agencies to help get shifts covered and in verifying invoices. Submitting the check request for those companies.
  12. Helps follow up with staff on getting task completed and ensuring everyone has the communication information needed.
  13. Performs chart audits for Med/Surg, performance improvement initiatives, annual competencies, and other special projects as assigned by the Director of Nursing and/or other nursing leaders.
  14. Data collection and presentation for the QMS meeting monthly.
  15. Promotes compliance with accident prevention procedures, safety rules, and safe work practices to prevent employee injury and illness and control workers’ compensation
  16. Assist in departmental education opportunities and seek out opportunities for the Med/Surg To include assisting in organizing ACLS, BLS, and PALS classes.
  17. Within 1 year of hire, become an instructor for BLS, ACLS and possibly
  18. Function as the chair for the Daisy Award program at the facility.
  19. Assist with DNV and regulatory
  20. Submit a daily synopsis of unit status (census, staffing, IT or maintenance issues) to the Director of Nursing prior to the daily safety huddle each day. Assist with reporting on the daily huddle in the absence of the Director of Nursing
  21. Complete rounding on patients at minimum twice weekly.
  22. Ensure daily logs are kept up to date
  23. Assist with complaints and employee
  24. Assist with implementation and be a superuser for the electronic health
  25. Follow up with staff and ensure they get their annual fit testing with employee
  26. Assist the Director of Nursing with annual
  27. Assist the Director of Nursing with determining equipment/needs for the unit for budgeting annually
  28. Ability to work in the clinical rotation of Medical-Surgical unit within the scope of a nurse:
    1. Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
    2. Prepares, administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV), and records prescribed Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed practical nurse.
    3. Records patients’ medical information and vital
    4. Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment used on Interprets and records electronic displays.
    5. Initiates corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse
    6. Provides beside care for a wide variety of medical patients, include pre- and post-surgery patients
    7. Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury by explaining post-treatment home care needs
    8. Changes dressings, inserts catheters, and starts
    9. Prepares equipment and aids physician during examination and treatment of
    10. Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards an
    11. Participates in discharge
    12. Utilizes time management
    13. Records all care information concisely, accurately, completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format, and on the appropriate forms.
    14. Answer and refer telephone calls or other inquiries to ensure accurate and timely communications
    15. Cooperates with distribution of resources to maintain a therapeutic
    16. Float among various clinical services, where qualified and
    17. Any other duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a health care setting. This role requires regular walking to various locations around the hospital. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and some mechanical equipment. The employee is exposed to a variety of patient conditions and elements. The noise level is moderate to quiet.

 

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and listen.

This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects and patients weighing over 50 pounds.

 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday; hours are flexible based on the job duties demand. Evening and weekend work may be required based on the needs of the position/job duties. After hours calls/text messages from staff are also to be expected with this role.



This position requires administrative “on call” responsibilities.



When assigned as a staff nurse (due to a vacancy), this position may require shift work; shifts may vary, but working hours may be up to approximately 12 hours.



Required Education and Experience:

  1. Current, valid certification in the state of Georgia a Registered Nurse.
  2. Current, valid AHA Healthcare Provider training (BCLS).
  3. Current, valid AHA Healthcare Provider training (ACLS).

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

Experience working as a registered nurse, including some medical/surgical experience.
