Job Description

Position Summary Bat technicians are needed to conduct bat surveys for multiple projects with the Colorado Natural Heritage Program. Surveys will be conducted at locations throughout Colorado on U.S. Forest Service lands, military bases, and private lands. Technicians will trap, and process bats, conduct telemetry, and deploy acoustic detectors. Applicants with experience manually vetting bat acoustic data will be considered for extended employment both in the Spring and Autumn of 2026.

Essential Job Duties

1. Safely and effectively conduct bat surveys at remote field sites throughout Colorado using mist nets and harp traps.

2. Work well independently and as a team for long hours and unusual schedules, travel during the field season, share living quarters in rustic field housing, bunkhouses, and car camping

3. Capture, identify, take morphometric measurements and collect samples from bats.

4. Track bat movements using radio telemetry equipment.

5. Record and maintain field data, photos and biological samples

6. Deploy bat acoustic detectors in accordance with established protocols (NABat and others) at sites throughout Colorado

7. Organize and analyze bat acoustic data to identify bat sound files to species using specialized software

Conditions of Employment Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires). Valid Driver’s License. Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date. The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CNHP will not provide visa sponsorship for this position

Supervision - no supervision duties

1. B.S. in Biology, Zoology, Wildlife Biology or related field

2. Experience surveying for and handling bats

Preferred Qualifications

1. M.S. in Biology, Zoology, Wildlife Biology or related field

2. Bat acoustic analysis experience

3. Wildlife telemetry experience

Salary Range

$22.00 - $24.00
