Job Description

Position Summary:

The Sociology Department hires non-tenure track, temporary, part-time instructors, from an applicant pool for fall, spring, and/or summer terms to teach courses such as introductory sociology, criminology, ethnicity, theory and research methods. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States by the proposed start date. The Department of Sociology will not sponsor a Visa for these positions.

Essential Job Duties:

Essential job duties vary depending on the course, but may include:

  • Preparing lectures

  • Creating assignments

  • Holding office hours

  • Grading course materials

Specific duties will be defined at the time of hire by the supervisor.

Conditions of Employment:

Pre-employment criminal background check (required for new hires)

Supervision:

This position reports to the Department Chair of Sociology.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree

  • A master’s degree in Sociology, Criminology, or related field

  • U.S. work authorization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Sociology or related field, is preferred.

  • Experience teaching courses in Sociology or Criminology.

  • Demonstrated commitment to, and evidence of, excellence in teaching the area of Sociology or Criminology.
