Join our team as a Lab Support Technician and become an essential part of delivering accurate, efficient, and high-quality patient care behind the scenes.  In this role, you’ll register, order, and accession specimens using laboratory and hospital systems while carefully verifying patient information to ensure testing accuracy and compliance with coding and Medicare policies.  You’ll perform phlebotomy and manage specimen handling from start to finish, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, organizing, storing, and preparing specimens for transport according to DOT and IATA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Register, order, and accession specimens using lab and hospital systems; verify patient information and ensure test accuracy and compliance with coding and Medicare policies
  • Perform phlebotomy and specimen handling, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, organizing, storing, and preparing for transport per DOT and IATA regulations
  • Evaluate specimen integrity and appropriateness; resolve issues and cancel or adjust orders as needed
  • Provide guidance on specimen collection, lab processes, and results; monitor orders to ensure timely collection
  • Train, mentor, and evaluate students and new staff

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Training as a unit clerk, medical assistant, medical secretary, or phlebotomist is preferred. 
  • Coursework in biology and/or chemistry is considered. 
  • Previous employment in a medical setting, in computer operations, and/or with telephone demands is preferred.
