Position PurposeÂ
The ED Mental Health Tech (MHT) role is designed to provide a holistic and compassionate approach to patient safety by supporting patients experiencing behavioral health or psychosocial crises.  The MHT works collaboratively with members of the ED treatment team and external departments in a direct patient care capacity.  Â

Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesÂ
Â
Direct one-to-one observation of patients in the ED, while documenting the patient’s condition during monitoringÂ
Assist with crisis intervention by utilizing approved de-escalation and calming techniques as appropriateÂ
Participates in mitigating the safety of patients experiencing psychosocial crises and their physical environmentÂ
Immediately escalating safety or patient behavioral concerns to ED nurses, providers, or other colleagues including security personnelÂ
Provide emotional support with calming techniques when appropriateÂ

Education/License/Certification RequirementsÂ
Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements:Â
Excellent interpersonal communication skillsÂ
Strong problem-solving/critical thinking skills with a collaborative approachÂ
Ability to manage competing priorities and maintain composure in stressful situationsÂ
Sitting for extended periods of time with frequent standing, walking, bending, and stoopingÂ
Â
Minimum Qualifications:Â
High school diploma or equivalentÂ
Previous behavioral health experience preferredÂ
Â
Credentials/Licensure:Â
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)Â
Current Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training certification from the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or ability to obtain certification and maintain annually
