Position OverviewÂ
CHC seeks a Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) / Senior Safety Coordinator to serve as the primary safety presence on assigned construction and marine project sites. Reporting to the Director of HS&E & Risk Management, the SSHO implements CHC safety programs, enforces compliance, conducts daily safety activities, and serves as the on-site liaison for USACE requirements. This is a hands-on, field-based role. Availability beyond standard hours — including evenings, weekends, and on-call incident response — is a core requirement of this position.Â

ResponsibilitiesÂ
Site Safety & ComplianceÂ
- Provide daily on-site safety oversight for construction and marine operationsÂ
- Implement CHC’s HSEMS, Accident Prevention Plan (APP), and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs)Â
- Conduct daily toolbox talks and document attendanceÂ
- Perform site inspections, identify hazards, and drive corrective actionÂ
- Enforce OSHA standards and USACE EM 385-1-1 requirementsÂ
- Accompany USACE safety and insurance personnel during site visitsÂ
Incident Response & ReportingÂ
- Respond immediately to all incidents, near misses, and injuriesÂ
- Conduct root cause investigations and complete required incident reports within established timelinesÂ
- Coordinate post-incident drug and alcohol testing per CHC protocolÂ
- Respond on-site outside normal hours when required — timely response is a condition of employmentÂ
Training & RecordsÂ
- Deliver new hire orientations and required safety trainingÂ
- Maintain daily safety records, inspection logs, and training documentation in SharePointÂ
- Prepare weekly and monthly safety reports for the Director HS&EÂ

QualificationsÂ
- 3+ years hands-on safety experience in heavy civil, marine, or construction environmentsÂ
- USACE EM 385-1-1 project experience strongly preferred; prior SSHO experience preferredÂ
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent certification/experience consideredÂ
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferredÂ
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and SharePointÂ
- Valid Florida Driver’s License required; must pass pre-employment drug screening and E-VerifyÂ
- Ability to obtain U.S. Government security clearance (project-specific)Â

Work Location & TravelÂ
Primary location: Sarasota, FL. Position is fully on-site — remote work is not available. Travel to other CHC project sites across South Florida is expected. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.Â
