ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Covenant House Florida reserves the right to unilaterally modify, remove, or add to any of the following: 

  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention: Supervise youth, maintain order, and exercise appropriate judgment at all times (i.e. at meal times, on the residential floors, in common areas, on recreations, and during escorts). Assist youth in emergencies as directed by supervisor.
  • Sanctuary and Physical Plant: Maintain a clean and safe environment. Assist and supervise youth in general cleanliness of all residential living and common areas. Ensure that work areas are clean and organized before, during, and at end of shift.
  • Case Management: Greet all youth unconditionally and aid them in assimilating to the CHF environment.  Establish rapport and trust with youth. Ensure that services rendered to youth are in a culturally competent manner according to CHF Mission, Principles, and Core Values.  Familiarize and assist residents with the assessment process.  Guide and advocate for the residents in planning future goals and setting attainable objectives.  Provide support, encouragement, and accountability to the youth in their daily activities so they fulfill their plans.
  • Communication: Communicate pertinent information with staff and youth throughout each shift. Communicate respect, mutual support, honesty, and caring to all youth and staff. Take an active part in shift transition and provide vital information about youth and referrals. By the end of each shift, complete all documentation neatly and accurately (i.e. case records, incident reports, abuse reports).
  • Referrals: Assist residents and families with the necessary community resources/referrals to advance youths’ plans, including escorting youth to the appointment as appropriate.  Make referrals to other agencies and in-house projects, as well as following up with these referrals.
  • Drive company vehicles to escort youth to and from activities, hospital visits, school, and various other appointments, etc.
  • Must be able to occasionally exert up to 15-20 pounds of force to lift or carry. Must frequently move about both indoors and outdoors..

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

EDUCATION: 

Bachelor’s degree in human services, psychology, counseling, criminal justice, or social work preferred. 

 

 

EXPERIENCE: 

Minimum of two years of work history required. Two years of experience working with at risk youth preferred.  

 

 

SCHEDULE:  

 

 

Must be available on Saturdays from 6p-11pm. This is an on-Call position and used on an as-needed basis. There is no guaranteed number of hours or regular work times established. Per Diem employees may not work more than 29 hours per week. 

SKILLS: 

Must be a self-starter and team player with the ability to work well with others. Must have demonstrated ability to maintain order and exercise appropriate judgement in crisis situations including the physical ability to intervene in critical or emergency situations. Excellent communication skills as demonstrated by concise, timely and professional correspondence, both written and verbal. Demonstrated understanding of conflict resolution skills and sensitivity to culturally diverse populations and computer literacy is required. 

 

 

 

TRANSPORTATION: 

Must have a valid FL driver’s license and good driving record. May need to transport clients/staff if required using agency transportation. 

 

 

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will frequently move about both indoors and outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Must be able to lift, carry or push up to 20lbs. on occasion, bend, sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. Some weekend/holiday work may be required. 

 

 

SUPERVISORY DUTIES: 

This position does not perform supervisory duties.  

 

 

EQUIPMENT USED: 

Must be able to utilize basic word processing, email, and internet programs. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
