What You Will Do:

As a Cryptologic Computer Scientist, Level 2 at Independent Software, you will apply computer science, programming, and analytical skills to network traffic analysis and mission-focused technical development. You will analyze network data, work with specialized analytical tools, develop fingerprints, and create automated solutions to support complex mission requirements.

In this role, you will use Python and Jupyter Notebooks to automate analytical processes and develop repeatable technical workflows.

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Perform network traffic analysis to identify patterns, characteristics, and relevant technical information
  • Use XKS, DX, DEVNAV, and related analytical tools to support mission requirements
  • Develop and refine fingerprints to support technical analysis
  • Develop Python scripts to automate analytical and technical workflows
  • Create and maintain Jupyter Notebooks for analysis and automation
  • Analyze and process complex network and technical data
  • Develop software, scripts, tools, and capabilities to improve analytical processes
  • Apply computer science and software development principles to complex technical problems
  • Document technical approaches, analytical methods, and findings
  • Collaborate with technical and mission teams to support operational objectives

Required Skills and Qualifications:
 
  • Experience performing network traffic analysis
  • Experience working with XKS, DX, DEVNAV, and/or similar analytical tools
  • Experience developing fingerprints for technical or network analysis
  • Proficiency with Python programming and scripting
  • Experience developing automation using Python
  • Experience creating and working with Jupyter Notebooks
  • Strong understanding of computer science and software development principles
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to independently research and develop technical solutions


Education and Experience:

Candidates must meet one of the following:

 
  • Bachelor’s degree plus five (5) years of relevant experience; OR
  • Master’s degree plus three (3) years of relevant experience; OR
  • Doctoral degree plus two (2) years of relevant experience; OR
  • Associate’s degree plus seven (7) years of relevant experience may be considered for individuals with in-depth experience clearly related to the position

Degree must be in Computer Science.

Related fields, such as Engineering or Mathematics, may be considered when the degree program includes, at minimum, a concentration of coursework in foundational Computer Science areas, including:

 
  • Algorithms
  • Computer architecture (not network architecture)
  • Programming methodologies and languages
  • Data structures
  • Logic and computation
  • Advanced mathematics, such as calculus and discrete mathematics

Information Technology (IT) or Information Systems (IS) degrees may be considered when the program contains coursework equivalent in amount and type to a Computer Science major.

Relevant experience must be in one or more of the following:

 
  • Computer systems research
  • Simulation/model development and prototyping
  • Software design
  • Programming
  • Computational science
  • Algorithm analysis and design
  • Reverse engineering
  • Designing/developing computer or information systems, including engineering hardware and/or software

Clearance Requirement:
 
  • Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role
