Foxhole Technology is seeking a Systems Administrator III to provide advanced systems administration and technical support for cyber sensing development and defense activities within a secure Department of Defense (DoD) environment. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience supporting complex IT and cybersecurity environments, with strong technical capabilities across Linux systems, infrastructure, network security, automation, and mission-critical platforms. This position is responsible for administering, implementing, securing, troubleshooting, and maintaining critical network and cyber sensing capabilities in support of the Department of Defense Information Network (DoDIN). The Systems Administrator III will work closely with cybersecurity, network, engineering, and operations teams to ensure the availability, security, performance, and continued modernization of mission-critical systems. 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform day-to-day systems administration and operational support for enterprise and mission-critical IT environments, including user accounts, access permissions, system configurations, and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor system health and performance, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, and identify and resolve or escalate complex technical problems.
  • Plan and implement system updates, security patches, and antivirus/endpoint security solutions in accordance with DoD cybersecurity requirements, including DISA STIGs and IAVM guidance.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of DoD cybersecurity, security hardening, and compliance requirements, ensuring systems remain aligned with established security standards and procedures.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve system documentation, including configuration records, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), technical guides, and operational procedures.
  • Execute and validate backup, recovery, and restoration procedures to support system availability, resiliency, and continuity of operations.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot cybersecurity tools and technologies, including HBSS, ACAS, SIEM platforms, and related security monitoring and assessment solutions.
  • Administer and support Linux-based sensors and hardware, including sensor management platforms, iDRAC, and BluVector, ensuring systems remain operational, secure, and properly configured.
  • Develop and maintain basic automation and scripting using Bash, Python, or other scripting languages to improve system administration and operational efficiency.
  • Support the integration and deployment of systems across physical, virtualized, and containerized environments, as applicable to the mission.
  • Investigate system and security events, perform root-cause analysis, and coordinate with cybersecurity, network, engineering, and help desk teams to resolve incidents and maintain operational availability.
  • Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to less-experienced team members and contribute to continuous improvement of operational processes.
  • Respond to technical support requests and collaborate across teams to resolve end-user and infrastructure issues while maintaining established service levels and security requirements.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Minimum Security Clearance: Active Secret clearance
  • Must have a current DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II approved certification (i.e. CompTIA Security+ CE)
  • Minimum of 8+ years of experience in IT support, help desk, or systems administration
  • Basic knowledge of managing operating systems, troubleshooting technical issues, user permissions, and file structures
  • Competency and understanding of Linux operating systems
  • Ability to write basic scripts with Bash, Python, or other scripting language
  • Ability to follow structured processes, maintain clear documentation, and escalate issues when needed
  • Strong interest in learning and contributing to a mission-driven, security-focused team
  • Hands-on experience with network security solutions, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, encryption, and Zero Trust concepts
  • Knowledge of DevSecOps principles, automation, Ansible, test integration, and scalable deployment architectures
  • Experience supporting DoD compliance frameworks, including DISA STIGs, RMF, and NIST 800-53
  • Experience engineering solutions across on-premises, virtualization, and containerization environments

Desired:

  • Experience as a Cyber Analyst is a plus
  • BS Degree in a related Field

$12,000—$140,000 USD
