Indian River State College is seeking passionate Adjunct Physics Instructors to join our academic team. In this role, you will teach Physics or Astronomy courses, bringing energy and expertise to the classroom to help students understand the fundamental principles and apply them to real-world problems. Whether guiding learners through mechanics, electricity, or modern physics concepts, you’ll play a key role in building their confidence and curiosity in science.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparing, instructing and grading all class coursework;
  • Assigning final grades;
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Required:

  • Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution in the specific teaching discipline, or a Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate hours in the specific teaching discipline.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written;
  • Proven teaching skills with the ability to convey basic concepts and theories in a practical and comprehensible way;
  • Ability to recognize and to respond to students from culturally diverse backgrounds as well as the willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process;
  • Computer literacy and experience using computers in classroom with a willingness to apply technology and innovative approaches to the teaching of specific discipline.

Preferred:

  • Two to five years teaching experience in a post-secondary institution
  • All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS).

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instructing assigned classes; grading all quizzes, tests, and written assignments;
  • Assigning final grades and delivering grades and grade justification sheets;
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students;
  • Maintaining a safe and effective classroom environment;
  • Participating in department, division, and general adjunct faculty meetings;
  • Completing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
