CWI Works is recruiting for a Park Ranger Interpreter position within the Experience Service Program (ESP) that provides support to the United States Department of the InteriorNational Parks Services (NPS), National Capital Parks-East in Ft. Washington, MD.

 Role and ResponsibilitiesEnrollee will work collaboratively with park staff to provide customer service, operate the visitor center and bookstore and give interpretive tours of Fort Washington to the public.  

  • Leading guided programs/tours
  • Conducting special research projects
  • Giving educational programs to schoolchildren
  • Staffing a visitor center and orienting the public to a historic site
  • Developing the park’s digital presence and enhancing websites and Facebook posts
  • Representing the National Park Service.
  • May perform other duties required to support the operation of the division.

Qualifications and Education Requirements: Successful candidates must meet the age criteria of being 55 years of age or older and eligible to work in the United States; able to pass a Federal Background check; HS/GED; must feel comfortable in public speaking. Ideal if you are a former teacher, tour guide and have an interest in American history. Excellent communication skills and interact well with people from all areas within the agency.  You will receive professional training in historic interpretation; digital media in the field of public history and coaching to begin your public history experience; experience in engaging local communities in nationally significant stories to include planning and working at special events, ceremonies and programs. Applicants must be able to participate in field work. This requires some physical exertion such as standing behind a visitor center desk, and bending, crouching, stooping, reaching, or similar activities in a potentially adverse condition. Must be able to lift 15 pounds, a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record. Occasional telework may be offered.

Hours & CompensationPart-Time position working 24 hours per week @ $ 44.00 per hour. 2-month project
