Description:

St. Mary Medical Center, a member of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, is looking for a Patient Access Rep to join our ED team!

Shift: Full Time, rotating shift, with rotating holidays and weekends.

Job Description Summary:

The primary function of the position is to greet, pre-register and/or register patients in a courteous and professional manner, verify insurance benefits and check for the necessity of pre-certification, authorization and referral. Perform medical necessity checks where needed. Secure patient signatures for required hospital forms and collection of patient’s financial responsibility when required. The position is also responsible for providing professional, quality customer servic. Timely resolution to customer problems, and coordination of services to all customers. The position functions to communicate revenue cycle related issues to patients, physicians, physician office staff and other hospital colleagues. This position rotates into various areas of patient access and may work a variety of shifts.

The PAR I performs outpatient, emergency room and / or inpatient registration functions.  Provides general information to hospital colleagues, patients and families and ensures that patients meet financial requirements.  Obtains accurate patient demographic and insurance information to provide timely submission of all encounters as well as provides excellent patient focused customer service. Communicates effectively to service delivery areas to maximize patient flow and customer service. 

  • Verifies insurance benefits and checks for the necessity of pre-certification, authorization and referral.

  • Performs medical necessity checks where needed.

  • Secures patient signatures for required hospital forms and collection of patient’s financial responsibility when required.

  • Is responsible for providing professional, quality customer service, timely resolution to customer problems, and coordination of services to all customers.

  • Functions to communicate revenue cycle related issues to patients, physicians, physician office staff and other hospital colleagues.

  • Rotates into various areas of Patient Access and may work a variety of shifts.

Requirements:                                                                                   

  • HS diploma or equivalency

  • Associate degree (Preferred)

  • Minimum one (1) year experience ininsurance verificationand medical office/hospital customer service​​

  • HFMA CRCR or NAHAM CHAA required within one (1) year of hire
