Job Description: 

 Design and development of space borne mechanisms and optical mounts for IR payloads.  Includes completing mechanical analysis, architecture definition design development with supporting trade studies.  Job will include being part of team of engineers in accomplishing the above assignments.

 

 

Essential Functions: 

  • Mechanical systems methods for IR payloads and subsystems from requirement allocations and flow downs to specification and interface definition and compliance verification
  • Detailed mechanical design skills of mechanisms for payloads.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Procurement during the build and test of mechanisms
  • Strong communication skills for internal presentations and reviews
  • Author PDRs, CDRs, and other required design review documents
  • Perform trade studies to determine optimal designs
  • Assist with schedule, cost, and technical responsibility at the subsystem level
  • Complete mass, torque margin and tolerance budgets and current predictions
  • Interface with team and other functions including Systems engineering, Operations and Quality.
  • Participate in risk assessment and develop mitigation strategies for complex projects
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance
  • Up to 10% travel may be required

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree or equivalent with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 6 years of prior related experience.
  • Experience in design for testing in space environments (i.e., temperature, vacuum, radiation, etc.)
  • Professional experience in 3D CAD modeling
  • Strong hands-on capabilities, to include integration and diagnosis of mechanisms and products

 

 

Preferred Additional Skills: 

  • Active Security Clearance is preferred
  • PTC Creo or Solidworks strongly preferred
  • NASA 5017 and ABMA Standards knowledge
  • GD&T, tolerance stacks
  • Expertise in 3D CAD modeling
  • Excellent people skills, with collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
  • Prior mechanism design experience
  • Experience using Microsoft Office products
