CNC Swiss Programmer & Setup Machinist

Location: Fort Wayne, IN

 

Join a family-owned company in Fort Wayne, IN, specializing in manufacturing high-quality gears for aerospace, defense, medical, automotive, and other industries. Since 1997, this team has been dedicated to innovation and quality, operating out of a 48,000 sq. ft. facility with a close-knit team of 24 employees—many with 20–25 years of tenure.

With a growth-oriented leadership team, the company has invested in advanced technology, including implementing Esprit software, and are on track to double the operation.

About the Role

As a CNC Lathe Programmer/Setup Machinist, you will play a pivotal role in the operations by leveraging your technical expertise in turning machines. This is an opportunity to:

  • Program and set up machines for Swiss, 2-axis lathes and lathes with live tooling.
  • Ensure quality parts for prototype and production work before handing them off to machine operators.
  • Influence future machine purchases and contribute to quoting new jobs.
  • Mentor and coach other machinists/operators as part of your career trajectory toward a leadership role.

This is a 1st shift position with flexible hours from 6:45 AM to 4:00 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Program Swiss and/or lathe machines (Esprit)
  • Set up Swiss and/or lathe machines
  • Collaborate with production manger, quality department and operators
  • Purchase tooling that you need to be successful in this role
  • Assist in development of shop processes and growth
  • Train and oversee other machinists as the shop grows
  • Write instruction sheets and tool lists

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience programming (Esprit, MasterCAM, etc.), setting up, operating, and editing
  • Proven ability to lead and grow a department
  • Ability to read and interpret customer and engineer drawings and prints
  • Knowledge of measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, indicators
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills required with the ability to communicate across various levels of the organization
  • CMM, EDM, and Solidworks exp is a plus
