Position Purpose

The Assistant Produce Manager supports the Produce Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the Produce Department. This position helps ensure exceptional customer service, product freshness, inventory control, merchandising excellence, food safety compliance, and team development. The Assistant Produce Manager assists in maintaining a clean, organized, and profitable department while helping drive sales and operational performance.

Key Responsibilities Customer Service & Sales
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and promote a customer-first culture.
  • Assist customers with product selection, seasonal offerings, and product knowledge.
  • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Support department sales and profitability goals through effective merchandising and product availability.
  • Maintain fresh, attractive, and fully stocked displays that drive customer engagement and sales.
  • Promote seasonal, organic, and value-added produce offerings.
Department Operations
  • Assist in managing daily department operations, including receiving, stocking, culling, trimming, and merchandising products.
  • Ensure all produce meets company standards for quality, freshness, and presentation.
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering products and supplies.
  • Ensure proper product rotation and inventory management practices are followed.
  • Minimize shrink through effective inventory control and product handling procedures.
  • Maintain department cleanliness, organization, and sanitation standards.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Assist with supervising, scheduling, training, and coaching department associates.
  • Provide direction and support to associates during daily operations.
  • Foster a positive work environment focused on teamwork, accountability, and customer service.
  • Assist with onboarding and development of new associates.
  • Assume leadership responsibilities in the Produce Manager's absence.
Food Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, sanitation requirements, and company policies.
  • Monitor proper handling, storage, rotation, and display of produce products.
  • Maintain department safety standards and ensure associates follow safe work practices.
  • Support loss prevention and shrink reduction efforts.
  • Participate in inspections, audits, and corrective action plans as needed.
Merchandising & Inventory Management
  • Execute merchandising plans, promotional programs, and seasonal displays.
  • Ensure accurate pricing, signage, and promotional execution.
  • Monitor sales trends and product movement to optimize merchandising decisions.
  • Assist with inventory counts, ordering, and operational audits.
  • Support department profitability through inventory management and shrink control initiatives.
