Job Summary
The Back-End Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring the back end of Prime Line 1 and/or 2 to ensure finished product meets quality, weight, and appearance specifications. This role requires continuous observation of the process, coordination with the Front-End Operator, accurate documentation, and immediate reporting of quality or equipment issues to maintain safe and efficient production.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the back end of Prime Line 1 and/or 2 according to work instructions
- Inspect finished product to verify lamination, roll quality, weight, and overall appearance
- Distinguish between acceptable product and damaged or rework rolls
- Continuously monitor the process and report non-conformances such as thick/thin areas, voids, tears, pinched edges, or under/overweight rolls
- Adjust roll length setup as required
- Verify ALI printer operation and ensure correct labeling and printing
- Record scrap material weights accurately and complete required documentation
- Communicate effectively with the Front-End Operator to support smooth line operation
- Notify Supervisor and Maintenance of equipment issues or malfunctions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe back-end work area
- Perform additional production duties as assigned by management
Quality & Compliance
- Follow all ISO-9001 standards and controlled documentation requirements
- Meet customer quality expectations and support continuous improvement efforts
- Communicate all non-conforming product and process issues immediately
- Participate in quality training, audits, and corrective action activities
- Utilize internal systems such as SharePoint as required
Safety Responsibilities
- Comply with all OSHA, company, and site safety policies
- Wear required PPE at all times on the production floor
- Report all incidents, accidents, and near-misses immediately
- Participate in OJT training, incident investigations, and safety initiatives
- Maintain good housekeeping practices in work areas and throughout the facility
- Follow all production floor conduct rules, including cell phone, food, and behavior policies
Qualifications
- Manufacturing or production experience preferred
- Ability to distinguish product density, color, and quality per specifications
- Strong math and counting skills
- Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and reprioritize
- Reliable attendance and flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and varied schedules
- Comfortable working in an industrial environment with uncontrolled temperatures
