Manuel Diaz Law Firm, PC. is a multi-practice law firm dedicated to guiding and empowering our community through exceptional legal services. We are seeking a self-motivated, bilingual (English/Spanish) Legal Assistant to join our Criminal Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Legal Assistant will provide a broad spectrum of legal services under the supervision of an attorney. As a regular part of this role, the Legal Assistant will accompany attorneys to court proceedings, jail visits, client meetings, and other case-related appointments to provide Spanish/English interpretation and support, in addition to performing in-office responsibilities. Other responsibilities include:


  • Accompany attorneys to court appearances, jail visits, client meetings, and other case-related appointments as needed.
  • Provide accurate Spanish/English interpretation for attorneys, clients, witnesses, and other individuals during in-office and out-of-office meetings and proceedings.
  • Assist with the translation of legal documents, correspondence, and other case-related materials between English and Spanish.
  • Provide administrative support to attorneys and enhance office effectiveness.
  • Communicate professionally with clients, witnesses, court personnel, and other parties regarding case-related matters.
  • Administratively support and attend trials when needed.
  • Gather, organize, and maintain case-related information and documentation.
  • Prepare and file basic legal documents, correspondence, and other case materials under attorney supervision.
  • Manage attorney calendars and monitor court dates, hearings, appointments, and case deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate and organized electronic and physical case files.
  • Answer and direct telephone calls.
  • Other duties may be assigned by the Associate Attorney, Managing Attorney for the Criminal Department, or the Chief Legal Officer.


Qualifications & Skills:


  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required, with the ability to effectively interpret conversations in a professional and legal setting.
  • Experience as legal assistant or legal secretary
  • Familiarity with legal terminology, court procedures, and the court system.
  • Ability and willingness to regularly travel to courts, jails, detention facilities, and other case-related locations with attorneys.
  • Satisfactory knowledge of day-to-day operations of a legal office
  • Computer literacy
  • Working knowledge of case management software
  • Excellent secretarial and organizational skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple activities and work under pressure


Position Requirements:


  • Ability and willingness to accompany attorneys to court appearances, jail and detention facility visits, client meetings, and other case-related locations as needed. 
  • Ability to provide Spanish/English interpretation in court, jail, client, and other professional settings. 
  • Willingness to work both in-office and out-of-office based on case and attorney needs. 
  • Ability to adapt to court schedules, hearings, appointments, and other case-related scheduling needs
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel to various locations as required for the position. 
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality while interacting with clients and handling sensitive criminal matters. 
  • Ability to work effectively in environments such as courthouses, jails, and detention facilities and comply with applicable security procedures and facility requirements.
