Job Purpose: The Fort Worth Botanic Garden Facilities  Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and enhancing the physical infrastructure and systems of a historic 120-acre botanic garden. This role ensures that the garden’s facilities, grounds, and equipment operate efficiently and safely, providing an exceptional experience for visitors and supporting the preservation of the garden’s legacy. Key Responsibilities Accountability Perform routine and preventive maintenance on buildings, greenhouses, pathways, lighting, and other infrastructure. Basic maintenance on plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems as needed. Maintain tools, equipment, and inventory, ensuring operational readiness and efficient use of resources. Use the right personal protection equipment (PPE) and safe working practices. Identify and address safety hazards and maintenance issues proactively. People Management/Interactions: Proactively collaborate with garden staff, volunteers, and contractors to support maintenance projects and special initiatives. Foster a collaborative work environment, encouraging communication and teamwork across all levels of staff. Support cross-departmental needs while minimizing disruptions to Garden operations, program activities such as classes and tours, and guest experiences. Communications: Communicate daily with your manager regarding work progress, challenges, and priorities. Report facility issues promptly and recommend solutions to maintain smooth operations. Provide clear instructions and updates to staff and contractors regarding maintenance tasks and timelines. Engage in all campus communication methods to stay informed and share information. This includes email, MS Teams, texts, calls, and newsletters. Communicate with others clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing. Ensure understanding of oral and written instructions. QualificationsCompetencies: Knowledge and Skills Required Basic knowledge of building systems including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems. Proficiency with plumbing skills not requiring a license to perform. Proficiency with maintenance tools, equipment, and machinery, including troubleshooting and repair techniques. Basic understanding of historic preservation practices and their application in maintaining heritage structures. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve maintenance issues efficiently. Organizational and time management skills to prioritize and handle multiple tasks effectively. Additional Job Requirements Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in varying weather conditions and terrains. Successfully pass a physical exam to assess whether the individual can perform the duties of the position with or without accommodation. Valid driver’s license. Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and workplace policies consistently. Basic computer and mobile phone app skills sufficient for benefits enrollment, time reporting, and electronic communication.  Be adaptable and flexible to changing schedules including occasional weekends and evenings. Ability to support and participate in FWBG public exhibitions, events and holiday work to support events or respond to emergencies.
