Position Summary and Responsibilities:

The Security Engineer plays a key role in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organization's cybersecurity infrastructure. This position will help protect the organization's computer systems, networks, and data against security breaches and vulnerabilities and assist in developing advanced security measures and engineering. The Security Engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams in IT to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of Ben E. Keith’s systems and data.

This position serves as a technical expert in the cybersecurity program and contributes to the development of security architecture and strategic initiatives. You will report to the Security Engineer Team Lead and may mentor or guide more junior team members, including Security Analysts.

 

Security Operations & Incident Response

  •  Continuously monitor security alerts, events, and logs to detect potential issues.
  •  Analyze security data to identify and respond to security threats and vulnerabilities.
  •  Perform regular security configurations, tuning, assessments
  •  Engineer integrations across security tools and platforms (e.g., SIEM, EDR, IAM, CASB).
  •  Assist in incident response activities, including investigation, containment, and recovery from security

             incidents.

  •  Document and report security incidents and breaches to management and relevant authorities, as   required.

Threat Detection

  • Assist in the development and refinement of playbooks and procedures for security incidents.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and recommend long-term mitigation strategies.
  • Analyze trends in security events and collaborate with IT on proactive mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in vulnerability assessments and penetration testing activities.
  • Stay current on emerging threats, tools, and technologies and incorporate knowledge into security strategy.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Support risk assessments and audits to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations (e.g., NIST, ISO, HIPAA).
  • Contribute to security reporting and metrics used to inform executive leadership.
  • Document system security designs, configurations, and procedures.

Security Awareness & Leadership

  • Promote Security Awareness and Best Practices.
  • Conduct Security Training and workshops for staff.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 4+ years of professional experience in cybersecurity, with demonstrated advancement in technical responsibility.
  • Industry certifications preferred, such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, GIAC, or equivalent.
  • Deep understanding of network security, system hardening, encryption, and threat modeling.
  • Experience with cloud security (e.g., Azure, AWS), endpoint detection & response, and modern security architectures.
  • Strong scripting or automation skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python) are a plus.
  • Proven ability to manage security projects and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Physical Requirements:  

  • The Security Engineer I will primarily work in an office environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required to attend conferences, training, or meetings with external partners.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.  
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs.
