Position Summary   Â
The Cook leads the preparation and serving of daily meals provided by Union Gospel Mission for residents, guests and visitors. Â The Cook functions as an essential member of the UGM kitchen team, and as such, accepts assignments to perform various duties within the kitchen. Â The Cook reports to the Kitchen Manager. Â This is a part-time position.
What You Do:
- Prepare menu items as directed.Â
- Ensure that trays, steam tables, and food carts are set up for the serving line.
- Set up serving area for special meals as directed.Â
- Clean kitchen and equipment, including stoves, ovens, steam tables, food carts, windows, doors, refrigerators, and other equipment.
- Store food items appropriately with labels and dates.Â
- Train kitchen volunteers and Skill Builders.
- Provide instruction to assist in Skill Development.
- Assist with kitchen inventory.Â
- Lead/mentor program workers assigned to kitchen for skill building.
- As needed, serve food on cafeteria serving line.
- Assist in maintaining a clean storage area.
- Take in food donations if needed and store properly.
- Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior cooking experience required.
- Valid food handlers permit.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentor volunteers and Skill Builders.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to the mission and vision of the organization.
