Day in the Life

As a Log Handling Operator, you’ll play a critical role in the sawmill production process. Your day will include:

• Operating the merchandiser safely and efficiently.
• Keeping the sharp chain infeed deck full to maintain production flow.
• Performing routine maintenance such as lubrication, saw changes, and guide adjustments.
• Calibrating saw modules and monitoring equipment for operational issues.
• Completing daily clean-up in your work area.
• Following lockout procedures and adhering to all safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate log merchandiser equipment safely and productively.
• Understand operational functions of all equipment in the area.
• Perform routine maintenance and calibrations as needed.
• Identify and communicate operational problems clearly for correction.
• Calculate numbers for manual sets and log lengths.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Comply with all safety policies and procedures.

What We Are Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to lift at least 40 pounds and work from elevated positions using safety gear.
• Ability to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and pulling for extended periods.
• Willingness to work any shift, including weekends, holidays, or overtime.
• Strong commitment to safety and excellent attendance record.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Basic computer skills.
• Experience in lumber or wood products industry and/or manufacturing.
