POSITION SUMMARY:

The Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor leads manufacturing engineering activities while providing hands-on technical expertise. This role oversees a Senior Manufacturing Engineer and drives process optimization, continuous improvement, and quality compliance. The position is responsible for implementing new manufacturing processes, supporting production teams, and ensuring cost, quality, and delivery objectives are consistently achieved.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Order Execution: Support effective execution of sales orders where technical support is needed
  • Resolve Immediate Issues: Lead short-term problem-solving efforts to quickly address and mitigate production challenges.
  • Drive Root Cause Analysis: Implement medium- and long-term strategies to identify underlying issues and execute effective countermeasures.
  • Optimize Processes: Design and develop fixtures and manufacturing processes in collaboration with Operations to improve productivity and increase yields.
  • Manage Nonconforming Materials: Enhance processes for disposition and handling of supplier nonconforming materials to minimize impact on production.
  • Lead Improvement Initiatives: Execute Operational Excellence (OPEX) projects to support business and corporate objectives.

 

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • BS in Engineering and experience of problem solving in a manufacturing environment required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as good organization and people skills
  • Skills commensurate with a technical degree, and facility with Microsoft Excel, or similar spreadsheet software is a must. Additionally, training and skills regarding Lean, Six-Sigma, and Kaizen methodologies are a plus.
  • Reasoning Ability: Critical thinking, data-supported decisions.
  • Ability to evaluate group and individual performance

 

ORGANIZATION STRUCTURE:

  • Reports to the Director of Operations, Pittsburgh

 

SUPERVISION:

  • This role is a supervisor role.

MOST CHALLENGING PART OF THE JOB:

  • The biggest challenge is managing technical support for multiple complex product lines in a high-mix, low-volume environment.
  • Employee Development:
    • Coaching and evaluating team members to build technical capability and leadership skills.
    • Training production personnel to build their skillsets and capabilities that support the manufacturing processes. 
  • Balancing Tactical and Strategic Priorities: Managing immediate production issues while driving long-term process improvements.
  • Resource Constraints: Allocating limited resources and equipment to meet aggressive production schedules.
  • Change Management: Leading adoption of new processes, technologies, and continuous improvement initiatives in a dynamic environment.
  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Leveraging analytics to identify root causes and justify investments in process improvements.
