The Position:
The Assistant Controller, reporting to the Controller, is responsible for the preparation of financial statements, participating in annual audits, managing invoices, meeting industry guidelines, and following state and federal accounting laws.  Is responsible for all activities within the general ledger and accounts payable process. 

This is a benefits-eligible contract position that will last until the end of 2026.

The position works Monday through Friday, from 8am-5pm. This is a hybrid position that works 3 days a week in our Franklin, MA facility, and 2 days a week remotely.

The compensation for this position is $75/hour.


How You’ll Make an Impact:

  • Ensures accurate, timely completion of all close cycles (monthly, quarterly, annual), including analytical variance commentary, GAAP compliance, and General Ledger accuracy.
  • Leads Year-end Audit coordination with external auditors, preparing reconciled schedules and supporting audit programs for tax, insurance, and other auditable areas.
  • Manages all tax, regulatory, and compliance obligations including federal, state, and local filings, business licenses, corporate insurance policies, and payroll tax withholding setup.
  • Oversees daily banking operations, electronic payment preparation, Cost-Plus account invoicing, and fixed asset accounting with proper depreciation schedules.
  • Reviews, updates, and creates documented department procedures, internal controls, and policies to ensure operational integrity and GAAP adherence.
  • In partnership with the Controller, attracts, develops, and retains high-performing, diverse talent; builds future leaders through mentoring, goal-setting, and role modeling.
  • Provides direct leadership and oversight of accounting staff through clear communication of expectations, ongoing training, active meeting facilitation, and company-wide information sharing.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience  in an accounting department or related position with an additional two (2) years’ prior management experience strongly preferred.
  • NetSuite implementation experience is required.
  • Experience must demonstrate strong financial analysis skills.
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft business applications such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word required
  • Prior accounting software/ERP knowledge.  Experience with Sage (Peachtree), Salesforce.com, Tableau, ADP, Ceridian preferred.
  • Experience must demonstrate high level of interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and written, as well as organizational skills, analytical skills, and attention to detail.  
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and the ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
