Job Summary

Operate computer numerical control (CNC) Laser processing machines.  Maintain awareness of close tolerance parts, including pointed parts. Following standard operating procedures and instructions.  

Role and Responsibilities 

  • Operate machines, achieving specifications including quality and throughput.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Perform ERP system transactions.
  • Perform required daily maintenance to equipment and tools.
  • Work from procedures and prescribed operation sequences to achieve parts per print and quality specifications.
  • Load control media to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from data base.
  • Ensure work piece is being properly covered with assist gas as needed and per setup instructions.
  • Monitor, observe and listen to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn rotary chucks or motion controls.
  • Monitor process and specifications. If changes are required, shut down process and see Setup person or Department Lead Person.
  • Notify supervisor and/or department Lead Person of discrepancies.
  • Perform own part inspection during laser process to measure work piece to check to match specs, using measuring instruments such as microscope, optical comparator, micrometer, caliper, dial indicators and gauges. 
  • Communicate with co-workers, members of other shifts, technical leader, team leader and/or supervisor to transfer and receive instructions and information, coordinate activities regarding the status of the operation of particular jobs.
  • For parts for which the operator has been signed off to proper training documentation, perform 1st piece and In-process inspections for self and peers.
  • Record measurements per inspection plans and methods indicated.  Monitoring for trends. If adjustments  are required, Notify lead or supervisor of observations. If adjustments are needed maintain specifications and minimizing variation, be available to assist and learn.
  • Simultaneous to laser operation, perform a variety of secondary operations as required ex. Cleaning parts, cleaning work areas and assisting others within department.

 

Qualifications

  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in a small device manufacturing environment as a CNC Machining Operator is preferred. Experience operating Lasag, Kohler, Coherent/Rofin or IPG Lasers is helpful.  
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing, aerospace, machinery, metals are desired. 
  • Follow written and verbal instructions and capable of meeting deadlines. 
  • Good manual dexterity and ability to use measurement and inspection tools.
  • Good work habits, attendance adherence, strong workmanship values and a positive attitude are required as well as an ability, desire and flexibility to perform a variety of machining operations and other functions within manufacturing as needed. 

 

Education Requirements 

H.S. Diploma or equivalent. Graduate of a vocational school in manufacturing/machining or engineering discipline is a plus.  

 

 Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent performing repetitive work
  • Occasional lifting (max. 40 lbs.)
  • Occasional carrying (max. 40 lbs.)
  • Subject to physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts
  • Constant safety glasses
  • Constant full PPE in clean room
  • Frequent standing
  • Occasional sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, reaching.
