Job Summary:

Specialized Dental Partners is seeking a highly skilled Server Engineer (Server Platform Product Owner) to design, implement, and operate our enterprise server platform across hundreds of distributed clinical locations. This role is responsible for ensuring secure, reliable, and scalable hybrid environments while driving standardization, automation, and operational excellence.


The ideal candidate is hands-on, deeply technical, security-minded, and comfortable owning network architecture end-to-end, from branch design to cloud connectivity, while serving as an escalation point

for complex network issues.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

 

Server Platform Product Ownership

  • Own the server platform as a service product, including vision, architecture, standards, and roadmap
  • Define and maintain reference architectures for on-prem Hyper-V, Azure virtual machines, and hybrid workloads
  • Establish and track success metrics for the server platform (availability, performance, security, recoverability, cost efficiency)
  • Serve as the single point of accountability for server design decisions and platform outcomes
  • Oversee server operations and deployments with nationwide IT partners

Architecture & Operations:

  • Design, implement, and maintain Hyper-V host environments and guest server architectures
  • Act as senior escalation for complex incidents and root cause analysis
  • Own Windows Server build standards, lifecycle management, and decommissioning
  • Ensure server resilience, redundancy, performance, and scalability
  • Work with the Service Desk to provide technical escalation for server-related issues
  • Participate in after-hours support ad-hoc in critical situations.

Cloud & Hybrid Server Architecture:

  • Own Azure IaaS server architecture, including VM sizing, storage, backup, and monitoring
  • Design and maintain hybrid server connectivity and workload placement strategies
  • Integrate identity-aware access and authentication using Azure Entra ID hybrid design
  • Partner with security team to align server design with zero-trust principles
  • Construct centralized-identity domain structure to span on-prem and cloud

Automation & Standardization:

  • Approach automation as a first-class product feature and essential deliverable
  • Build standardized server images, deployment templates, and configuration baselines
  • Leverage PowerShell and IaC tools to reduce manual effort and configuration drift
  • Own server documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks

Backup, Recovery, & Security:

  • Own server backup, recovery, and disaster recovery standards
  • Ensure patching, vulnerability remediation, and configuration hardening are consistently applied
  • Support audits and compliance initiatives (HIPAA-aligned environments)

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience as server engineer
  • 2+ years of experience managing application servers
  • 2+ years of experience with automation tools and PowerShell
  • 2+ years of experience with Hyper-V or VMWare, and Windows Server
  • 2+ years of experience operating hybrid on-prem and Azure server environments
  • 3+ years in proven heavy business communications roles

Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Large scale enterprise environment server deployment automation experience
  • Primary owner across server platform and service architecture and design
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies.
  • Familiarity with information security principles and best practices in a HIPAA environment
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders
