Job Summary:
The Lead Mammography Technologist oversees MIF, LLC mammography program. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with MQSA, ACR, ARRT, and state regulatory agencies and for the MIF, LLC Risk Management Program.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Assists in hiring and performance evaluations for mammography personnel and assistants, overseeing their day-to-day duties.
  • Trains and onboards new and cross-trained mammography technologists (e.g., equipment, positioning, safety, procedures) and Breast Care & Quality Coordinators.
  • Mentors and holds mammographers accountable for quality standards; provides remedial training for staff with quality concerns.
  • Oversees quality control procedures for all mammography imaging equipment, ensuring compliance with manufacturer, ACR, and MQSA standards. Conducts regular quality control testing (monthly, quarterly, and annually) on mammography equipment.
  • Provides monthly, quarterly, semiannual, and annual quality control testing summaries to leadership.
  • Maintains ACR program and MQSA compliance, ensuring proper documentation for personnel and equipment.
  • Reviews and develops plans for technical callbacks as part of continuous quality improvement (CQI).
  • Prepares patients and performs mammography-related procedures, including screening and diagnostic mammograms, bone densitometry, needle localizations, and stereotactic breast biopsies.
  • Manages follow-up procedures for mammography results and communicates results to patients and providers. Validates mammography result and reminder letters to ensure correct physician and patient information.
  • Maintains biopsy results and certified mailings documentation. Ensures accurate reporting and filing of patient information for billing purposes.
  • Maintains patient exposure evaluation program to monitor radiation safety.
  • Coordinates annual preventive maintenance schedules for mammographic and DEXA equipment. Assists with equipment repairs and collaborates with service representatives.
  • Ensures all state certifications for equipment are maintained and coordinates annual physicist inspections and other evaluations.
  • Participates in the ACR Mammography and MSQA accreditation processes by submitting images for review.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of radiologic technology required.
  • ARRT membership and ARRT (M) registry in Mammography required.
  • AHA BLS Provider CPR required.
  • Minimum of four years’ experience with quality control testing procedures required.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience as an interventional mammographer required.
  • Working knowledge of ACR, MQSA regulations and requirements required.
  • Computer knowledge including spreadsheet software preferred.

Ability to tolerate irregular hours including evenings, nights, and weekends. 

Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards: Risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals.  Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.  

For MRI Associates: Must complete MRI Associate screening and be approved to work in the MRI environment (Zones 3 & 4) at all times.
