"Description Summary:

In this fast-paced environment, the Registered Nurse provides relevant nursing and support services in an ambulatory or case management setting. Participation includes interdisciplinary team, committees, program evaluations, research, education and may include the supervision of students.


PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES


Achieve Results

1. Improve patient outcomes, and deliver quality care within practice areas as assigned.Ā 

2. Registered Nurse is the shifts charge nurse, as assigned by the Director of Nursing, and coordinates the activities of the unit and is responsible for assigning work to the nursing staff.

3. Ensure all clinical care is delivered in a manner that meets or exceeds goals and expectations for clinical outcomes, quality assurance standards, and patient satisfaction.

4. Participates in quality strategies to evaluate compliance with standards and to identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes.Ā 

5. Perform an assessment based on the patient’s diagnosis, reason for entry into system and care needs. Utilize the nursing process to plan, perform, delegate and evaluate the delivery of nursing care.

6. Stay current with knowledge, concepts, practices and skills appropriate for the clinical area assigned.

7. Ensure all patient charts and related documentation are maintained current and relevant at all time.

8. Ensure all care and nursing practices are conducted consistent within current, relevant standards, as well as state and local laws and regulations, and related professional standards.

9. Demonstrate competency in practice and knowledge of current standards of practice.Ā 

10. Maintains credentials and performs current nursing practice expectations within established guidelines.

11. Develop and maintain favorable internal relationships, partnerships with co- workers, including clinic managers, nursing staff, physicians and business office staff.

Stewardship and Professionalism

13. Ensure all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications represent the organization in a highly professional manner at all times.

LeadershipĀ 

15. Supervise, lead and direct the work of Certified Medical Assistants, Licensed Practical Nurses externs, interns and any other nursing support staff assigned, by Nursing Director.Ā 

16. Supervise new hires and less experienced staffs on their job duties.

17. Assist Nursing Director in recruiting, performance evaluation, retention and employee coaching activities.

18. Assist in developing divisional orientations and job training programs for new hires.

19. Provide direct patient care and services in the assigned unit.

20. Monitor patients throughout the shift and report any emergencies to physicians promptly.

21. Address patient complaints in a timely fashion to ensure patient satisfaction.

22. Serve as a resource in interdisciplinary team to ensure quality patient care.

23. Develop individual care plan to meet patient needs and achieve treatment goals.

24. Manage daily staff assignment and patient scheduling to ensure clinic coverage and flow.

25. Perform daily rounds to assess patient condition and distribute medications to patients.

26. Assess and address physical and emotional needs of patients.

27. Educate patients on their health condition, maintenance and treatments.

28. Document and report patient assessment data to physician on daily basis.

29. Update patient medical records with services provided, health condition and response to treatments.

30. Assist divisional director in developing budgetary and/or inventory guidelines.

31. Assist to organizing training seminars and courses to educate new staff or introduce new procedures and protocols

32. Assist to evaluating staff performance and providing corrective measures if necessary

33. Ensure that the Nursing Director is Communicating of staff issues and any necessary changes to treatment protocols.

34. Creating a yearly budget for nursing staff.

35. Performing administrative tasks, such as creating staff schedules and ordering supplies.

36. Remaining calm under pressure and be able to quickly and effectively delegate staff responsibilities during busy shifts or emergency situations.

37. Report medical supply and equipment needs to Supervisor.

Non-essential Functions: Ā 

• Diplomacy, tack, setting goals; influencing people through persuasion; building strong teams; negotiating them with a win-win attitude; respecting their failures; motivating them constantly; aligning their employee energies and efforts with organizational goals.


• Licensure and Credentials: Valid license to practice medicine as a Nurse in the US Virgin Islands. Current CPR (BLS) certification. Annual Health Attestation is required for all medical, dental, and nursing staff.


Position requirements / Job qualifications:

Education

• Graduation from an accredited nursing program.

• Associate’s degree, Bachelor’s degree preferred.

• Current, US Virgin Islands licensure as a Registered Nurse.Ā 

• Current BLS/CPR certificate.

• Demonstrated experience developing personal practice guidelines that are dependent on knowing what the aspects of the situation look and sound like in actual patient situations.

Experience

• Demonstrated success in providing clinical care and nursing support within an organization of comparable pace and complexity.

• Demonstrated success in managing difficult patient/customer situations.

• Significant knowledge of medical practices and procedures within in a primary care environment.

• Demonstrated success and experience with direct patient services and the proper knowledge and use of medical devices and equipment.

• Demonstrated success and familiarity with tools, technology, and systems typical found within most progressive health care environments (i.e. personal computer skills, spreadsheets, word processing, patient records systems, EMR systems, etc.)

Physical/ Environmental

• Occasional lifting of 40 – 50 lbs and pushing of 5-20 lbs

• Sitting, standing and walking approximately 80% of the time

• A medium to high level of manual dexterity required

• Bending and reaching approximately 20% of the time

• Normal accessibility and mobility throughout the region required

• Normal overtime/extended work hours

ā˜’Category I: Ā Job classification includes ALL employees who have occupational exposure* to blood borne pathogens* (blood or body fluids) while performing their job duties.
