Position Overview


Wolfe's Neck Center seeks a motivated Farm Cafe Kitchen Assistant to join our Visitor Experience team for summer 2026. The nonprofit operates an organic dairy, six acres of organic no-spray fruit and vegetable production, a selection of small livestock, as well as a 152-site campground. In order to serve the mission of connecting people to the food system, Wolfe's Neck Center operates a Farm Cafe and utilizes as many farm products as possible.


The Farm Cafe Kitchen Assistant will help with the daily operation of the Farm Cafe by helping with sanitation, organization and other critical duties. This position offers an entry way into a culinary career and builds the foundation for future kitchen jobs. Perfect for a first kitchen job, this position has the opportunity to build the fundamentals that will be valuable throughout life in the culinary field.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manual and mechanical dishwashing.
  • Maintain a clean work environment including shared kitchen, walk-ins, and Cafe.
  • Help set up and break down internal catering events.
  • Help set up and prepare for weekly pop-up dinners.
  • Practice safe food handling.
  • Cleaning and organization of shared spaces.
  • Help with preparation work needed for all culinary operations.
  • Any other assigned tasks to help in kitchen and Cafe operations.


QualificationsĀ 

  • 0-2 years of culinary experience, preferably in a similar style operation
  • Punctual, reliable and self starter
  • Ability to work both independently, and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work in group settings, and be able to function as part of a team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly and retain new information
  • Adaptability and problem solving skills

Requirements

  • Legally able to work in the United States (we cannot provide VISA sponsorship)
  • Ability to work at Wolfe's Neck Center campus in Freeport, ME

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in varied physical positions for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds repetitively, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions and tasks requiring manual dexterity.
