Job Description
Join a dynamic metal fabrication manufacturing company that supports the electronics, medical, aerospace, food, and semiconductor industries as a Controller. In this role, you oversee all aspects of financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and key HR-related processes, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial and regulatory operations that support a growing, multi-industry manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive monthly and annual budgets and prepare detailed variance reports to support informed management decision-making.
- Prepare timely monthly and annual internal and external financial statements, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare year-end financial statements in full compliance with GAAP, clearly identifying and explaining any exceptions.
- Coordinate the annual financial audit and tax preparation activities with external financial auditors.
- Maintain all personnel procedures and records in accordance with state and federal requirements, as well as Department of Workforce (DOW), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and aerospace industry standards.
- Maintain and update the employee handbook, and ensure employees understand, implement, and comply with established HR procedures.
- Coordinate HR software and records with IT systems to ensure all required HR information and personnel records are accurately captured and maintained.
- Document, implement, and enforce a robust system of internal controls across financial and HR processes.
- Maintain training records and ensure required training is properly scheduled, delivered, and documented.
- Prepare regulatory compliance and information reports, including census reports, and respond promptly to information requests from regulatory agencies and tax authorities.
- Manage accounts payable processes and oversee line of credit borrowing to support operational cash flow needs.
- Manage accounts receivable and payroll functions to ensure accurate, timely payments and collections.
- Maintain and reconcile banking statements and manage authorized signatories for company bank accounts.
- Participate in management programs aimed at maintaining and enhancing cyber security systems related to financial and HR data.
- Assist in developing and maintaining banking relationships that support the company’s financial strategies.
- Advise the board on the company’s 401(k) program, including plan administration and compliance considerations.
Essential Skills
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, demonstrating increasing responsibility in financial management and reporting.
- Prior experience working in a manufacturing industry environment.
- Strong month-end close and financial reporting skills, including preparation of internal and external financial statements.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles and GAAP, with the ability to prepare compliant year-end statements.
- Proficiency in general ledger accounting, journal entries, and account reconciliation.
- Experience with budgeting, variance analysis, and preparation of variance reports.
- Hands-on experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and enforce internal controls over financial and HR processes.
- Prior exposure to HR processes and procedures, including personnel records and HR compliance.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions.
- Experience supporting audits and working with external auditors.
- Ability to prepare and manage financial reporting under tight deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial statement preparation and reporting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience preparing regulatory compliance and information reports, such as census reports.
- Familiarity with HR software and integration with IT systems for recordkeeping.
- Experience with payroll platforms such as Paylocity or similar systems.
- Knowledge of line of credit management and banking relationship development.
- Understanding of cyber security considerations related to financial and HR data, and experience participating in related management programs.
- Ability to advise leadership on retirement plan programs, including 401(k) administration.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with auditors, regulatory agencies, tax authorities, and internal stakeholders.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple deadlines and reporting requirements simultaneously.
Work Environment
This position is fully on-site, working five days per week at a metal fabrication manufacturing facility that serves the electronics, medical, aerospace, food, and semiconductor sectors. You operate in a fast-paced environment where timeliness and accuracy of financial and regulatory reporting are critical. The role involves close collaboration with operations, HR, IT, and leadership teams, with frequent interaction around audits, compliance, and banking matters. There is no work-from-home option offered for this role.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Permanent position based out of Fremont, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $140000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
