POSITION SUMMARY

The R&D Project Manager leads from the front, applying hands-on technical expertise to drive projects through all medical device product lifecycle stages. This role ensures customer needs are met, facilitates regular communication, and maintains budget control. The PM fosters seamless collaboration between internal teams and customers to deliver best-in-class design and quality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leverage technical expertise to lead projects from discovery to design transfer, taking ownership of key milestones and deliverables.
  • Manage consistent information flow among team members, management, and clients.
  • Identify and communicate project risks such as changes to scope, timeline and budget.
  • Organize, delegate and track tasks across internal teams and external partners (vendors, clients) to ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget.
  • Analyze and track current project deliverables and ensure alignment with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop project plans outlining phases, tasks, dependencies, timelines, resource allocation, and costs.
  • Establish and track weekly, monthly goals, budgets and schedules for projects and team members.
  • Lead design reviews and risk management documentation.
  • Ensuring the planning, coordination, execution, tracking and reporting using software tools like MS Project, Smartsheet, JIRA etc.
  • Working Proficiency with MS Office.
  • Maintain detailed project documentation throughout all phases of research and development.
  • Employ excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills with all levels of personnel and management.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Biomedical Engineering is desired, Masters preferred
  • 1-3 years of medical device product design and development experience
  • Familiarity with FDA and ISO 13485 medical device regulations and standards
  • Working knowledge in one or more areas is desired:
    • Technical areas (example: CAD modeling of housings; design of experiments, PCBA development etc.
    • Product areas (example: interventional/diagnostic medical devices; intravascular devices; bioelectronics devices)
    • Risk Management, Manufacturing Quality and Operations
    • Financial Budgetary Tracking and Reporting
  • Strong communication are critical to the position
    • Concise, timely and professional communications (verbal, written) are a must
    • Express ideas, recommendations and solutions clearly, logically and concisely
  • Management of resources
    • Well organized and uses time efficiently. Familiar with all reference materials and can locate needed information as necessary. 
    • Takes initiative for self-development. Prioritizes tasks effectively. Demonstrates initiative and creativity in the use of available resources.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, fast-growth R&D/business environment
  • Flexibility, persistence, passion, resourcefulness, a drive to succeed, and an entrepreneurial spirit are highly desired
  • PMP Certification desired.

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to move throughout office and laboratory space, using a complete variety of office equipment and laboratory machinery, and tools.  May lift up to 30 pounds and stand for extended periods of time. Must tolerate exposure to chemicals found in the VIant Medical Inc environment
