Job Title: Medical Assistant
Department:Clinical
Reports To:Practice Manager
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Uses communication skills with appropriate medical terminology.
• Measures and records vital signs.
• Interview patients while recording and updating medical information (history, chief complaint) and medications etc. into the EHR system.
• Prepares patients for examinations and performs routine screening tests.
• Provides patient education with regard to medications and instructions set forth by the provider to manage their health.
• Prepares and administers medications with physician authorization.
• Maintains supplies, equipment, stocks, and prepares the exam rooms for patients
• Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
• Check and respond to patient phone calls (communicating w/the provider on course of action and relaying to the patient).
• Review and prepare requests and prior authorizations for medications.
• Familiar with signs and symptoms of allergy testing systemic reactions. Familiar with emergency equipment and protocols for treatment.
• Seeks immediate assistance from RN/LVN staff in dealing with emergency treatment for allergy testing patients.
• Participate in all In-Service training courses
• Participate in creative ways to promote patient engagement and personalize patient outreach, improving overall experience and driving authentic patient reviews.
• Proactively escalates patient, workflow, or operational concerns to leadership with constructive solutions.
• Promote fully electronic workflows and collaborate with leadership to reduce manual paper processes where feasible.
• Maintain patient, staff and employer confidentiality. Comply with all HIPAA regulations.
• Provides additional support and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• High school graduate or equivalent
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or comparable experience.
• One-year medical office experience is preferred.
• Current CPR certification is required. Medical Assistant Certification a plus.
• Must be self-directed and able to work independently
• Attention to detail a must
COMPUTER SKILLS
• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel and Word

Physical Demands
Anticipate lifting 20-25 pounds in any given day. Lifting up to 40-50 pounds may occasionally be required, depending on the specific style or type of care provided. In the performance of certain patient care tasks, the Medical Assistant may be expected to have sufficient manual dexterity in order to safely perform various skills and techniques. Tasks and expectations may vary by clinical site and medical practice. Substantial movements (motion) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers in a repetitive manner. May be exposed to acutely ill patients, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, and airborne allergens used during skin testing and immunotherapy.
Work Environment
Well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation; Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic), daily stair climbing; Typical schedule is Monday through Friday with regular working hours; Occasional overtime and travel to other clinic locations may be required.
