RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Duties include; receiving, unpacking, verifying and recording incoming merchandise or material; and arranging for the transportation of products. Prepare items for shipment by providing support to the shipping department and assembling, addressing, stamping, and shipping merchandise or material as needed while maintaining a high standard of efficiency and accuracy. Work environments vary depending on position and include dry, cooler and frozen atmospheres. Details of job functions are as follows:

Examine contents and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment.

Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, and shipping orders to route materials.

Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, and damages and discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, and recordkeeping purposes.

Determine shipping method for materials, using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.

Deliver or route materials, using work devices such as hand truck, pallet jack, forklift, etc.

Confer and correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, and nonconformance to specifications.

Compute amounts, such as space available, and shipping, storage, and demurrage charges, using calculator or price list.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Checking incoming merchandise against invoices or orders to spot quantity discrepancies and damaged goods and inspect the quality and condition of the merchandise received

Moving product to correct storage areas

Being familiar with all product locations

Keep supervisor informed of inventory levels and product requirements

Capable of following instructions from Managers, Supervisors and fellow associates correctly

Ability to accurately determine the difference between similar products

Keep warehouse in neat, orderly condition at all times

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Prefer to have two to four years previous experience in receiving, preferably in a food distribution environment

Previous experience working in food distribution is highly desirable

Experience using a WMS scanning system or a similar type of program

Must have accountability, accuracy, well organized and detail oriented

Must demonstrate honesty and Integrity

Reliable and responsible

Must demonstrate safety awareness and have the ability to identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety

Must work well under pressure

Possess strong oral and written communication skills

Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and deal with pressure situations and deadlines regularly

Be able to quickly adapt to changes in the workplace

Must be capable of working in extreme temperatures, both cold and frozen

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)

Two to four years related experience

Familiarity with computer software or warehouse software

WORKING CONDITIONS

Standard warehouse conditions apply. Long hours spent standing, walking, bending and lifting products. Operating industrial equipment such as electric pallet jacks and forklifts. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Exposure to extreme temperatures (both hot and cold).
