- Spray prescribed amounts of fertilizer, insecticides, herbicides and fungicides, using hoses and truck mounted tank, taking care not to injure turf or shrubs.
- Fills sprayer tank with chemicals and water according to formula, using hose or pump. Pull spray hose from truck-mounted reel, turn knob, press lever, and point nozzle selected according to site characteristics, such as type of infestation, wind direction and velocity, and terrain. May use portable spray equipment.
- Calibrate spray equipment as required.
- Assist course superintendents in planning current and long-range spray programs.
- Maintain daily spray records.
- Maintain proper chemical inventory.
- Responsible for the direct preventive maintenance of all equipment associated with the task of spraying.
- Read, understand and keep current with all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Maintain chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state and federal regulations.
- Responsible for the safety of all helpers.
- Perform routine safety inspections on all spraying equipment.
- Follow label instructions and wear proper safety equipment.
- Effective operation of all maintenance equipment as required.
- Additional duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- 2 to 4 years of accredited program and at least one-year experience in either golf course maintenance, sports turf, lawn care or other related turfgrass management related field.
- Experience and/or training in golf course operations and the use of handling of pesticides, fertilizers, applications and equipment.
- The ability to read and comprehend technical instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- The ability to write simple correspondence.
- The ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- The ability to calibrate correctly and to reasonably track applications.
- Must be able to correctly determine quantities and amounts for use and documentation purposes and be able to apply these skills to given areas.
- The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out complex instructions.
- The ability to deal with standardized situations with occasional variables.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
- Mandatory Texas Pesticide License within 3 months of hiring.
- Texas Pesticide Applicator License required, or the ability to obtain the license within 90 days of hire

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
- Facility orientation, hazard awareness and property tour will be provided prior to any initial on course activity.
- Expectations and performance requirements will be clearly set during this period.
- The employee will be provided with the training, tools and follow up to perform job duties as required. Training will be documented in an effort to describe the individual accomplishments and level of success for each operation.
- This training will come in the form of video tapes, field training, shop area training and staff meeting attendance.
- The employee will be informed of on site hazards and the properties concern for staff welfare and protection. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided and documented as required for the position.
- Working weekends will be a requirement of the position per work schedule. Overtime and odd hours may be required during season with prior notification. Overtime is a general condition of working at the facility of between 4 and 8 hours weekly.
