The Director of Assurance Wireless provides end-to-end leadership and full profit-and-loss (P&L) ownership for T-Mobile’s Assurance Wireless Lifeline business and carries accountability for strategic direction, operational execution, financial performance, and regulatory compliance. The Director independently leads and governs the majority of functional areas supporting the Lifeline operation, including strategy development, business development, marketing, sales, vendor and partner management, device and product roadmaps, third-party handset sourcing, third-party supply chain and fulfillment, 3rd Party IT Platform Mgmt, offer management, distribution management through outside agents and association partners, compensation management, forecasting, results reporting, and day-to-day operational management.

The Director operates with broad decision-making authority and serves as the primary business owner for the Assurance Wireless program, influencing and coordinating across enterprise support functions including Customer Care, Finance, HR, Legal, and Government Affairs, regularly engaging with senior executives and external stakeholders to align business performance, regulatory obligations, and corporate objectives. The Director is responsible for meeting, documenting, and tracking all Assurance Wireless–related merger commitments, as well as Consent Decree obligations, including operational compliance with ETC, federal, and state regulatory designations. Continuous monitoring of evolving government regulations and program requirements is a critical component of the role, requiring proactive operational adjustments to maintain compliance and mitigate risk. Failure to execute in this area presents significant financial exposure, including potential multi-million-dollar fines and reputational risk to T-Mobile. The Director is ultimately accountable for delivering $140 million in revenue and $40 million in contribution margin, while ensuring operational excellence, regulatory integrity, and sustainability of the Assurance Wireless business.

Un-carrier® Responsibilities

  • Creates Assurance Wireless’ overall vision, mission, beliefs, and strategic goals, consistent with the overall vision and beliefs of T-Mobile. Drives implementation of all federal and state compliance requirements for the Assurance product: merger commitments, consent decree commitments, and operational compliance.
  • Formulates and leads the implementation of the strategic plan that guides the direction of the Assurance Wireless business, including strategic distribution, marketing, product, operational, and compliance plans. The strategic plan is approved by the VP and the EVP. Designs, develops and drives programs and activities to ensure and improve employee performance and satisfaction.
  • Owns brand end-to-end for all products and features. This includes driving the creation, management, maintenance, and communication of product vision and roadmap. Drives key integration strategies and programs for Assurance Wireless: network migration, biller capability development, biller conversion, universal SKU, etc. Responsible for providing data to support all audits, investigations, and reviews.
  • Drives Assurance’s design, delivery, and execution of all Assurance merger integration initiatives, including customer migration to T-Mobile network, device replacement, capability requirements, and testing of development and billing conversions. Evaluates progress and success of the organization against the business goals. Develops corrective actions as required.
  • Responsible for driving and meeting all operational compliance requirements – compliance with state and federal regulations, compliance with ETC designations, operational monitoring, sampling, defect reporting, and correction.
  • Influences T-Mobile’s regulatory lifeline policies and positions as they impact the business; Full participant in T-Mobile’s lifeline federal and state regulatory agenda and initiatives.
  • Maintains awareness of the competitive landscape, opportunities for expansion, customers, markets, and new industry developments and standards. Monitors for opportunities the organization can leverage and pursue to further success.
  • Participates in other duties or projects as assigned by business management as needed.

The Experience You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 7-10 years in roles with increasing responsibilities, P&L management, strategy, execution, and compliance required.

  • Proven ability to effectively and efficiently communicate with Senior Leadership, government officials, and vendors while employing a high degree of collaboration and influence.
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to identify/analyze/synthesize product use data.
  • Experience in delivering large and complex business/technology initiatives.
  • Ability to identify and solve complex business problems.
  • Deep understanding of regulatory processes, ability to synthesize the impact of proposed changes on Lifeline business, strong industry contacts to influence regulatory outcomes.
  • Deep understanding of key drivers of financial success.
  • Extensive experience with the development of strategic business, marketing, and operational plans.
  • Experience with successive elaboration and ability to develop Initiatives, Features, and User Stories that the DevOps teams can ingest.

Base Pay Range: $176,200 - $238,400

Corporate Bonus Target: 25%

The pay range above is the general base pay range for a successful candidate in the role. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, such as qualifications and experience, so the actual starting pay will vary within this range. Most Corporate employees are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance and which is set at a percentage of the employee’s eligible earnings in the prior year.
