Village Green Lawn & Pest has served North Texas homeowners since 1980. We're a family-owned company based in downtown Plano — not a national chain, not a call center. Our lead technician has been with us for over 13 years. That kind of tenure doesn't happen by accident.
We're growing and looking for people who want to build a career in the trades, not just fill a shift.
This is a full-time, year-round outdoor field technician role servicing residential properties in Garland, Mesquite, Forney, Plano, Richardson, and East Dallas. Pay: $20–$22/hour based on experience. We offer weekly paychecks, health insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid holidays and vacation, company truck, uniforms, and equipment — plus structured onboarding and a clear path to grow.
Schedule: Monday–Friday daytime routes; occasional Saturday overtime during peak season.
FIRST — THE REALITY OF THE ROLE
That means:
• Hot summers (90–105°F)
• Cold winter mornings
• Physically active days (lifting 50 lbs, on your feet 8+ hours)
• Inspecting properties, applying treatments, maintaining detailed service records, and communicating with homeowners
We operate on four core values. We hire for them and we keep them:
• Do the right thing — For customers and team members. Every day.
• Strive for excellence — Work hard and smart. Care about the quality of your work. Don't quit when it gets hard.
• Coach and be coachable — Be humble, hungry, and willing to learn. We'll invest in your growth if you show up ready to listen and adapt.
• Care about the team and customers — People first. Respect everyone. Help others. Keep it drama-free.
If your background is strictly office-based, this role likely isn't the right fit. We believe in being direct so we don't waste your time — or ours. If you job-hop every year or two, or you're just passing through, this role is not for you.
Two Ways to QualifyENTRY LEVEL — No Industry Experience Required — Pay rate is $20 per hour
We're happy to train the right person.
You bring:
• Strong work ethic and reliability (show up on time, ready to work)
• Willingness to learn and accept coaching
• Comfort working outdoors year-round
• Detail-oriented mindset — you care about the quality of your work
• Initiative — you ask "what's next?" instead of waiting to be told
• Professional, respectful attitude toward customers and teammates
Training includes structured onboarding, ride-alongs, and licensing support.
After you successfully complete your 90-day onboarding period (with check-ins at 30, 60, and 90 days), we'll support you in working toward your pesticide license.
EXPERIENCED TECHNICIANS — Lawn / Pest / Mosquito / Outdoor Field Roles — Pay rate is $22 per hour
Candidates with relevant field experience will ramp up faster.
Helpful experience includes:
• Lawn care
• Pest control
• Mosquito control
• Landscaping
• Outdoor service routes
• Other physically active field roles
If you have outdoor trade experience, you know how to work outside, work hard, and take pride in your work. That's what we're looking for.
After you successfully complete your 90-day onboarding period (with check-ins at 30, 60, and 90 days), we'll support you in working toward your pesticide license if needed.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Service residential properties on a daily route in and around Plano, Richardson, McKinney, Frisco, and Garland
• Apply lawn care, mosquito, and pest control treatments
• Inspect properties, identify issues, and communicate findings to homeowners
• Maintain accurate service records and customer notes — details matter
• Keep your truck, equipment, and uniform clean and organized
• Follow all safety procedures
IMPORTANT APPLICATION REQUIREMENT — Resume Requested
A resume is helpful but not required. If you don't have one, a brief work history in the application is fine.
If your resume does not show outdoor work experience, please include a brief note explaining:
• Why you're interested in an outdoor trade career
• Why you believe you'll succeed in a physically demanding role
OUR HIRING PROCESS
We take this seriously because we want the right fit — for us, and for you. The process typically takes a few weeks. Here's what to expect:
Step 1: Application Review
We review applications within a few business days. If you meet our requirements, expect a text from us with next steps.
Step 2: Meet and Greet Form
You'll complete a brief form to help us learn more about your background and what you're looking for. This gives us a fuller picture before we meet.
Step 3: Small Group Interview
If we both want to continue, we'll invite you to a small group interview at our shop with a few other applicants. This is informal — we're getting to know you, and you're seeing if we're a good fit for you.
Step 4: Working Interview
If you advance, the next step is a working interview to see you in action on an actual route. We'll pay you for that day, but it's not a guarantee of hire — it's your chance to see the real work, and our chance to see how you perform in the field.
We move thoughtfully through this process because a bad hire hurts everyone. If we both feel it's the right fit at each stage, we move forward. If not, we'll be honest about it. Our goal is to find someone who's genuinely excited about this work and who fits our culture.
Full transparency: this process takes time. We won't rush it, and we won't drag it out. Count on a few weeks from application to a final decision, but you'll know where you stand at every step.
30-DAY EVALUATION
We're deliberate about hiring. You'll have a structured 30-day onboarding period with weekly check-ins, training, and feedback. At day 30, we make a mutual fit decision: you decide if this is the right role for you, and we decide if you're the right person for the team. We invest in training; we expect commitment in return. This isn't a probation period to sneak through — it's a proving ground for both of us.
Your 90-day onboarding includes check-ins at 30, 60, and 90 days. After you successfully complete 90 days, you're off probation and eligible for pesticide license support.
