About the Role

Modern Auto Service in Fruitland, ID is looking for an experienced Automotive & Diesel Diagnostic Technician to join our team! This position is designed for a skilled technician who is comfortable diagnosing and repairing both gasoline and light-duty diesel vehicles and enjoys solving more challenging automotive problems.

And guess what, our shop has A/C. Because sweating should not be part of the diagnostic process.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive diagnostics on gasoline and light-duty diesel vehicles using electronic diagnostic tools and equipment
  • Diagnose drivability, electrical, engine performance, fuel system, emissions, HVAC, and network communication concerns
  • Execute repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, diesel systems, and more
  • Interpret diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), wiring diagrams, scan data, and service information to develop accurate repair plans
  • Perform diesel diagnostics and repairs including fuel, air induction, turbocharger, emissions, and aftertreatment systems
  • Conduct routine maintenance and repair services as needed
  • Document diagnostic findings, repair orders, parts used, and labor time accurately and thoroughly
  • Communicate findings and recommendations clearly to service advisors
  • Assist other technicians with diagnostic and repair challenges when appropriate
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work bay and shop environment — an A/C shop environment, we might add
Requirements

  • 5–10 years of professional automotive repair experience preferred
  • Strong experience diagnosing and repairing modern gasoline vehicles
  • Diesel diagnostic and repair experience
  • Proficiency with advanced diagnostic scan tools and OBD-II systems
  • Strong electrical and drivability diagnostic skills
  • Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, scan data, and technical service information
  • ASE certifications preferred; ASE Master Certification is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of modern vehicle systems including electrical, drivetrain, HVAC, engine performance, and emissions
  • Ability to independently develop and execute diagnostic strategies
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced shop environment
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Own a set of professional hand tools
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and a strong team player
