Job Title: CAD Mechanical Drafter

 

Location: Gainesville, GA (In-Person)

 

Reports To: Design and Engineering Manager 

 

Position Type: Full-Time

 

Job Overview: The Mechanical Drafter will be tasked with creating 3D models and technical drawings of docks and associated parts. The scope of the Mechanical Drafter position will be to create models/drawings based on contract specifications, standards, and working knowledge of structural principles.

Competencies:

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge and experience using SolidWorks 3D CAD software.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with raw materials, how they are used and how to control quality.
  • Mathematical, geometrical, and minor engineering computations.
  • Strong communication skills with team members, vendors, and outside supporting companies.
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency to continually meet deadlines.
  • Ability to stay focused and produce high quality drawings.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Translate designs into 3D models and technical drawings for manufacturing and approval.
  • Apply structural & mechanical knowledge during design to ensure structural integrity and manufacturability.
  • Work with design team and production shop to improve quality and efficiency.
  • May require completion of training courses provided by MDI.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties in the job classification.

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Requires at least 6 (six) years of on-the-job training or any combination of education and experience.
  • Requires at least 3 (three) years of 3D CAD design software experience, SolidWorks preferred.
  • Fabrication and/or manufacturing experience is ideal.
  • Microsoft Office Tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must effectively speak, read, and write the English language.
  • Applicants must have legal authorization to work in the U.S. without the need for sponsorship now or in the future.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in smaller and fast paced companies
  • Experience in design of weldments, large assemblies and plate structures  
  • Broad-based mechanical design experience in heavy industrial/fabricated products
  • Working through concept to production product development cycles Experience in the construction industry
