Cleaver Dermatology & Aesthetics is seeking an experienced Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to travel with Dr. Cleaver between our Cumming, Dawsonville, and Gainesville locations. This position will support Dr. Cleaver in the evaluation and treatment of general dermatology patients, surgical patients, and patients undergoing Mohs procedures.
The ideal candidate is an experienced, dependable clinical professional who is comfortable working in a fast-paced dermatology environment, providing exceptional patient care, assisting with procedures, and anticipating the needs of the physician and patient.
Prior medical experience is required. Prior dermatology experience is strongly preferred. Experience assisting with dermatologic procedures, surgery, or Mohs surgery is highly desirable.
Essential Responsibilities
General Dermatology
- Prepare examination rooms and treatment areas for daily patient care.
- Obtain and document accurate patient histories, medications, allergies, vital signs, and other pertinent clinical information.
- Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for evaluation by the physician.
- Assist Dr. Cleaver with general dermatology examinations and treatments.
- Assist with biopsies, shave removals, excisions, cryotherapy, injections, wound care, and other dermatologic procedures as directed.
- Prepare and maintain sterile and clean supplies and instruments as appropriate for each procedure.
- Provide patient education regarding medications, wound care, treatment plans, and post-procedure instructions.
- Assist patients with questions and concerns and communicate appropriately with the physician when additional clinical attention is needed.
- Document patient care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and all applicable clinical policies and procedures.
Surgical & Mohs Responsibilities
- Assist Dr. Cleaver with dermatologic surgical procedures and Mohs-related patient care.
- Prepare patients and procedure rooms for surgical procedures.
- Assist with sterile technique and maintain a clean, organized, and appropriately prepared surgical field.
- Assist with surgical setup, instrument preparation, specimen handling, dressing application, and post-procedure care.
- Anticipate the physician's needs during procedures and provide supplies and instruments efficiently.
- Assist with wound care and reinforce physician-provided post-operative instructions.
- Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures and promptly communicate any concerns to the physician.
- Properly label, handle, and prepare specimens for laboratory/pathology processing according to established protocols.
- Maintain accurate surgical and procedural documentation.
- Clean, disinfect, and restock procedure rooms and surgical equipment according to practice protocols.
Patient Care & Clinical Support
- Deliver professional, compassionate, and patient-centered care at every interaction.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism when interacting with patients, physicians, coworkers, and visitors.
- Obtain informed consent and complete required clinical documentation as directed.
- Assist with patient photographs and other clinical documentation when appropriate.
- Assist with medication reconciliation and other clinical intake processes.
- Perform clinical tasks within the individual's scope of practice, training, and licensure/certification.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly notify the appropriate clinical provider.
- Follow infection-control, OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA, and other applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain examination and procedure rooms in a clean, stocked, and organized condition.
- Monitor clinical supplies and communicate inventory needs to the appropriate team member.
- Assist with opening and closing clinical areas as assigned.
EMR & Administrative Responsibilities
- Accurately document patient information, clinical findings, procedures, medications, and other relevant information in the electronic medical record.
- Utilize the practice's electronic systems efficiently and accurately.
- Complete required clinical forms and documentation.
- Assist with prescription refill requests, patient messages, and other clinical tasks as directed by the physician or clinical leadership.
- Follow established workflows for referrals, pathology results, lab results, and patient follow-up.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and practice information.
Travel Between Locations
- Travel with Dr. Cleaver to Cumming, Dawsonville, and Gainesville according to the physician's established schedule.
- Arrive prepared and on time at each assigned location.
- Adapt efficiently to differences in workflow, patient volume, equipment, and clinical needs between locations.
- Ensure necessary clinical supplies, instruments, and equipment are available for Dr. Cleaver's scheduled procedures.
- Maintain a professional and consistent standard of patient care across all practice locations.
