Job Summary


The Commercial Credit Underwriter is responsible for assisting in the process of organizing and administering the internal review of credits, preparing loan committee presentations and analyzing financial information as defined by bank policy using financial spreading software for complex commercial credits and other types of loan relationships as specifically assigned. 


Underwriter responsibilities are:


~ Reviews and assists the loan officers in underwriting applications. 


~ Assures compliance with loan policy and bank guidelines.


~ Underwrites loans of greater complexity, included but not limited to commercial and governmental lending products/programs.


~ Reviews procedures to maximize department resources, as well as identifying and making appropriate changes and improvements that can enhance the overall performance of the department.


The employee will support the bank's strategic goals, vision, mission, core values, service standards and service philosophy in actions, words and deeds.


Skills, Knowledge, Talents


Education


B.S. degree in accounting or financial management, or five years of related experience, or a banking accreditation in loan review is required. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.


 

Prior Experience


Ten years of related experience, or a banking accreditation in loan review is required.

 

Required Skills & Talents


Must have a basic knowledge of the bank's products and services.

Must have a willingness to serve.

Must be able to function efficiently in a network environment and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and SharePoint.

Must have a working knowledge of EXCEL.

Must be able to function efficiently on a general business level of math, possess general accounting knowledge (i.e. debits, credits, and an understanding of the bank's account reconciliations).

Project a professional image by adhering to guidelines in the employee handbook.

Must be able to collect, research, and analyze information skillfully.

Must be a self-starter, a creative thinker, flexible, eager, nurturing, open to change and exhibit good judgment.

Must be a leader by example, attentive to detail, work well with others and responsive to supervisory guidance.

Must be able to identify and interpret trends in financial data.

Must have a working knowledge of compliance guidelines for the bank and the industry.

Must know how to read financial statements. This includes the balance sheet, profit & loss statement, and cash flow statement.

Must know how to interpret key financial ratios (e.g. cash flow to debt service, debt-to-equity, etc.).

Must be able to identify and interpret trends in financial data.

This includes understanding the significant differences between Audited, Complied, and Reviewed financial statements.

Must be able to read credit reports.

Must understand the appropriate loan documentation as related to loan purpose type.

Must understand loan convents and commitment letters.

Must have knowledge of all lending regulations including the following:

Regulation B: Equal Credit Opportunity Act

Regulation C: Home Mortgage Disclosure

Regulation Z: Truth in Lending
