Works proactively with CSS staff, CDC and OR Staff to provide a high level of customer service with quality products. Provides sterile processing team with guidance in all aspects of departmental functions. Must have strong interpersonal skills both written and verbal. Knowledge of industry standards with TJC, AAMI, ICP and ACHA. Computer skills are required. Ability to operate multiple types of equipment including, but not limited to, sterilizers, washers, cart washers, steris 1 and sonic cleaners.


Responsibilities

  • Supports daily operational functions of Sterile Processing Department and assists Supervisor in management tasks. Maintains daily assignments, monthly work schedules, on-call rotations and holiday coverage. Provides specialty items for patient care units through CDC and the Operating Rooms. Operating Room Lead Technician's round in the OR every morning.
  • Participates in daily rotation of assignments in decontamination, clean side inspection and assembly, sterilization and stock rotation.
  • Instrument inspection and assembly of instrument sets following AAMI Standards and CSS departmental Policies and Procedures.
  • Performs departmental training for all aspects of sterile processing, with focus on decontamination, following AAMI standards and Infection Prevention and Control Policies.
  • Implements quality control with instrument trays, surgical linen products and equipment that support CDC, Surgical Linen and the OR.
  • Completes all annual HealthStream requirements.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have sterile processing certification or obtain certification within one year of employment.
  • CNA, PCA or medical background preferred with 2 years experience in CSS or operating room.

Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Motor Vehicle Operator Designation (Required): (Refer to CP 1.51) Employees in this position: Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose

NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile

a) at least once daily,

b) at least five individual trips per week or
