Overview

This position is responsible for performing technical and clerical duties within the inpatient pharmacy distribution system. These duties are associated with providing comprehensive pharmaceutical services to patients of UF Health. Task includes coordination of pharmacy repackaging and compounding, Central Pharmacy inventory management including medications and supplies, medication preparation and distribution to patient care areas and automated dispensing cabinets, regulatory compliance, and other tasks necessary to support safe medication distribution. Competencies required for Pharmacy Technician Level 1 must be completed and successfully assessed within 6 months of start date and at annual evaluations thereafter.
Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: 1. EDUCATION: a. High School diploma or equivalent required. 2. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING a. At least one of the following qualifications is preferred: i. One year of hospital or community pharmacy experience ii. Experience with non-sterile compounding and USP 795 requirements. iii. Experience with medication repackaging iv. Inventory management skills including experience with automation (carousels, automated dispensing cabinets) v. Completion of Military Hospital Core school and/or Field Medical Service school vi. One year (24 credit hours) of college level study which must include successful completion of the following subjects: Algebra, Chemistry, Biology 3. JOB KNOWLEDGE AND CHARACTERISTICS: a. Successful completion of all competencies required for the Pharmacy Technician Level 1 position, including all new hire competencies. Successful completion of departmental competencies defined as score of at least 85%. b. Demonstrate ability to lift 30+ pounds c. Demonstrate ability to operate calculator, telecommunication and computer workstations d. Demonstrate ability to properly utilize compounding and laboratory equipment e. Demonstrate knowledge of medications including brand and generic names f. Maintain baseline math competency; perform necessary calculations to accurately prepare medication doses g. Demonstrate knowledge and compliance with state and federal laws, rules, and regulatory standards h. Foster customer oriented and hospitable environment. Facilitate communication within and across departments. i. Demonstrate safety, accuracy and timeliness when completing work j. Demonstrate ability to triage work appropriately k. Once competency is established, demonstrate ability to train others Additional Requirement: As a condition of employment within the Pharmacy Services Department of Shands Hospital all employees must be accessible by telephone. This requires each employee to provide and maintain a valid telephone number to the department Staff Assistant, in order for the department to reach them in the event of hospital need and/or emergency. Licensure/Certification/Registration: All Pharmacy Technicians must be registered with the Florida Board of Pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician or licensed Pharmacist Intern prior to their first day of employment. Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Employees in this position will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose
