Job DetailsLevel: ExperiencedJob Location: National Institutes of Health (NIH) - Gaithersburg Campus - Gaithersburg, MD 20878Position Type: Full TimeEducation Level: Bachelors DegreeSalary Range: $100,000.00 - $112,000.00 Salary/yearTravel Percentage: NoneJob Shift: DayJob Category: Public HealthPosition Objective: Provide services as a Biologist in support of the overall functions of the Vaccine Production Program in the Vaccine Research Center within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).      Duties and Responsibilities:    Develop viral vaccines, recombinant proteins and/or virus-like particles or monoclonal antibodies. Perform investigations and documentation of cell line growth, optimization of cell culture/fermentation conditions, cell culture technology development, improvement of cell culture platforms, modeling of cell culture behavior, troubleshooting of cell culture/fermentation processes, and tech transfer of defined cell culture/fermentation processes to the clinical production facility. Capture process descriptions and results in lab notebooks, tech transfer documents, and technical reports. Independently set-up and operate bioreactors and other cell culture equipment required while executing development studies. Participate in project and laboratory meetings, keep current with compliance obligations, and be responsible for maintenance of the laboratory and equipment. Contribute results and studies for publication in peer reviewed journals. Serve as an SME/functional lead in pDNA (microbial) process development. Support VRC mRNA program through fermentation process evaluation, optimizations and material generation. Provide training on equipment, processes, and microbial techniques. Provide support for lab operations initiatives, including: o Consumables forecasting, materials inventory monitoring and supply. o Equipment maintenance and support (Nova Flex2 Analyzers). o Standardize process operations across projects/scale: authoring SOPs and provide SME direction. Serve as SME in setup, use, and maintenance of bioreactor control monitoring systems, including Lucullus or equivalent hardware/software o Provide end-user trainings. o Author protocols and other guidance documents. o Liaise with NIAID IT to ensure robust performance and troubleshoot operational issues, as needed. QualificationsBasic Qualifications: B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, or related life science degree is required. 5-10 years of industry-level experience in cell culture development is required. Experience with tech transfer of cell culture processes to manufacturing is required.       Preferred Qualifications: Ability to multi-task and pay close attention to detail.  Excellent analytical and interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
