ThisĀ excitingĀ opportunityĀ isĀ forĀ anĀ experiencedĀ CapitalĀ ProjectĀ DirectorĀ toĀ beĀ aĀ partĀ ourĀ GlobalĀ EngineeringĀ TeamĀ to lead the development of major capital projectsĀ in the Americas.Ā This Capital ProjectĀ DirectorĀ will be based in our Gaithersburg, MD location.Ā

The ProjectĀ DirectorĀ is accountable for the successful delivery of the project and responsible for ensuring that the business benefitĀ is delivered. This means delivering the project safely and compliantly, to the agreed scope, in the agreed timescale, for the agreed cost budget and spending plan, applying the agreed resources and delivering to the predefined quality requirements. The ProjectĀ DirectorĀ acts directly on behalf of the sponsor to take forward the project scope and is the focal point for delivering customer needs. The ProjectĀ DirectorĀ manages the project team members,Ā customers, and all external partnersĀ contributing to project’s success to ensureĀ that the requirements of all project stages are met in accordance with AstraZeneca Capital Project Delivery Process demonstrating the company leadershipĀ behaviors.Ā 

Roles andĀ ResponsibilitiesĀ 

  • InitiateĀ theĀ projectĀ effectively,Ā developĀ andĀ obtainĀ agreementĀ onĀ theĀ projectĀ charter
  • DevelopĀ theĀ ProjectĀ ManagementĀ Plan,Ā maintainĀ it,Ā communicateĀ itĀ andĀ implementĀ itĀ effectivelyĀ 
  • EnsureĀ clarityĀ ofĀ andĀ communicateĀ projectĀ rolesĀ andĀ responsibilitiesĀ 
  • ManageĀ projectĀ riskĀ pro‐activelyĀ 
  • Ensure appropriate levelĀ of governance is in place
  • EnsureĀ projectĀ reportingĀ andĀ decision-makingĀ processesĀ areĀ robustĀ andĀ timelyĀ 
  • Actively identify allĀ materials of project change, ensuring appropriate & timelyĀ assessment and review are performed.Ā Ā 
  • ObtainĀ appropriateĀ authorizationĀ forĀ anyĀ changesĀ inĀ projectĀ scope.Ā OwnĀ theĀ ProjectĀ ChangeĀ Register
  • EnsureĀ theĀ projectĀ scheduleĀ isĀ meetingĀ caseĀ timelineĀ andĀ ownĀ theĀ plan‐do‐reviewĀ process
  • GovernĀ theĀ approvedĀ projectĀ budgetĀ andĀ spendingĀ plan.Ā OwnĀ theĀ projectĀ costĀ reviewĀ andĀ reportingĀ process
  • Complete the plan through to H2 signoff, ensuring effective business participation (customer and key collaborators) throughoutĀ 
  • ReviewĀ theĀ projectĀ atĀ keyĀ stagesĀ andĀ communicateĀ theĀ lessonsĀ learnedĀ andĀ goodĀ practices;Ā 
  • Manage the handover process and close the project – successful Operational Performance Criteria, H1 and H2 signoff.Ā 
  • Maintain relationships with key business partners to ensure business requirements are effectively delivered against projectĀ objectives,Ā 
  • Lead supplier teams, communicating deliverables and responsibilities whilst encouraging collaboration amongst the team and businessĀ partnersĀ 
  • EnsureĀ projectĀ documentsĀ areĀ complete,Ā upĀ toĀ dateĀ andĀ storedĀ appropriately​
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment involving varying priorities and schedules
  • Experience of working within a governance framework and matrix organization

Essential Requirements:Ā 

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience
  • Direct project experience in managing/leading capital investments
  • HighĀ levelsĀ ofĀ drive,Ā energyĀ andĀ resilienceĀ withĀ abilityĀ toĀ takeĀ theĀ initiativeĀ 
  • AbilityĀ toĀ workĀ wellĀ inĀ diverseĀ teamsĀ andĀ provenĀ aptitudeĀ toĀ influenceĀ othersĀ toĀ achieveĀ positiveĀ outcomesĀ 
  • Demonstrated work with engineering and/or projectĀ experience.Ā 
  • Proven supervisory and technicalĀ skills.Ā 
  • Demonstrated capability to manage projects in excess ofĀ $250MĀ

Preferred Requirements:Ā 

  • Demonstrated capability to manage projects in excess of $750MĀ 
  • Experience applying modular design and construction techniques.Ā 
  • Experience working in a Global company with team members and partners around the world. Ā 
  • A project management qualificationĀ 
  • Master's degree in engineering management, technical management, or business administration.Ā

The annual base pay for this position ranges from $160,559.20 - $240,838.80 USD Annual. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
