Position SummaryĀ 

PrepMattersĀ is looking for bright, dynamic people to join our paidĀ academicĀ tutor training class, leading to work as a professional tutor in our Bethesda office. Weekly training sessions will be requiredĀ ofĀ allĀ new hires.Ā Ā Our colleagues enjoyĀ individualĀ offices, amenities includingĀ aĀ lounge,Ā well-stocked kitchen,Ā and the support of our full-time operations team,Ā so tutors can focus on the work that matters most: helping students!Ā 

Primary ResponsibilitiesĀ 

One-on-one tutoring - Deliver the highest quality academic tutoringĀ Maintain contentĀ expertiseĀ forĀ one or moreĀ STEM classes:Ā math through calculus and chemistry, biology, andĀ physicsĀ through AP level.Ā 

  • Craft personalized education plans for each studentĀ 
  • Master andĀ demonstrateĀ proficiencyĀ withĀ PrepMattersĀ instructional methodsĀ 
  • Tailor delivery of proprietary materials to the needs of the studentĀ 
  • Build upon each student’s strengths, includingĀ shoringĀ up academic weaknessesĀ and study skillsĀ Ā 
  • Recognize and work to remediate the effects of stress and anxiety tied to theĀ underperformance on testsĀ 
  • QuicklyĀ establishĀ a healthy rapport with studentsĀ 
  • Strive to build students’ self confidence in all interactionsĀ 

Client communicationĀ -Ā Serve as the primary point of contact betweenĀ PrepMattersĀ and the families with which it works, providing expertĀ feedback andĀ guidanceĀ about students’ academic progress and strugglesĀ Ā 

  • Listen wellĀ and curiously toĀ establishĀ trustĀ and helpĀ clients setĀ realisticĀ and helpfulĀ expectations and goalsĀ 
  • Provide updates after each session in the form of notes to parents and studentsĀ entered intoĀ ourĀ proprietaryĀ CRMĀ toolĀ 
  • Respond to parent or studentĀ inquiriesĀ in aĀ timely manner,Ā maintainingĀ professional standards of communication in form of address and language, andĀ addressingĀ client needs clearly and thoroughlyĀ 
  • Proactively schedule ad hoc conferences with parents and students as needed

Requirements

Education, Certifications and Years of ExperienceĀ 

  • Bachelor’s degree – complete and not in progress.Ā 
  • At least two years of tutoringĀ experienceĀ in one or more academic subjectsĀ 

RequiredĀ Knowledge,Ā SkillsĀ and AbilitiesĀ 

  • A true appreciationĀ for working with kidsĀ Ā 
  • Willingness to make at least 10 hours/week available, includingĀ at least someĀ weekend timeĀ Ā 
  • The ability toĀ reliably and independently manage client scheduling and email correspondence.Ā Ā 
  • The skillsĀ requiredĀ to score well on a qualifying test consisting ofĀ relevant subject matterĀ Ā 

Preferred Knowledge,Ā SkillsĀ and AbilitiesĀ 

  • Demonstrated mastery of subject matter and the ability to model the study habitsĀ requiredĀ for success atĀ academically rigorousĀ universitiesĀ Ā 
  • AcademicĀ expertiseĀ (up to the AP level) inĀ additionalĀ subjects ofĀ science, calculus, history, economics,Ā computer science,Ā or a foreign languageĀ Ā 
  • BackgroundĀ from a rigorous academic program is preferred to align with theĀ high expectationsĀ of our clientele.Ā 
  • Familiarity with the culture of highly competitive academic institutions is an asset.Ā 
  • Professional experience in a high-volume tutoring environmentĀ Ā 
  • A working knowledge of local public and independent schools
