Overview
Play a critical role in maintaining the integrity and rigor of one of the nation's premier laboratory accreditation programs by supporting the planning, direction, and execution of calibration laboratory accreditation activities for the National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program (NVLAP) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). We are seeking a highly experienced Calibration Laboratory Accreditation Specialist to assist NVLAP Program Managers in facilitating accreditation processes for a portfolio of approximately 100 calibration laboratories. Working closely with NVLAP staff, you will manage renewal and assessment workflows, review calibration and measurement capability claims, support nonconformity resolution, and contribute to the development and delivery of training for staff and assessors. This position requires deep technical expertise in calibration laboratory operations, ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation standards, and international accreditation cooperation frameworks, combined with strong organizational and communication skills to meet rigorous quarterly deliverable timelines.

Work Schedule and Location:
Remote: This full-time remote position will work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, 100% remote with travel to NIST as neededÂ
Responsibilities
Laboratory Accreditation Renewal Support:
- Assist NVLAP Program Managers with the facilitation of the annual renewal process for approximately 100 calibration laboratories in the NVLAP accreditation program
- Support the generation and renewal of Certificates of Accreditation and Scopes of Accreditation for assigned laboratories on a quarterly basis
- Review calibration and measurement capability (CMC) claims for technical validity and ensure accurate representation on scopes of accreditation
Assessment Process Coordination:
- Assist NVLAP Program Managers with all phases of the assessment process, including assessor assignment, scheduling, and confirmation that assessor deliverables have been received in accordance with NVLAP policies and procedures
- Support the review and closure of nonconformities following satisfactory resolution by the laboratory, within 30 days of receipt
- Administer and maintain communication with assigned laboratories and assessors regarding assessment activities and status
Program Documentation and Training:
- Assist NVLAP Program Managers and the Quality Manager with periodic review and updates to program documents, including Accreditation Program Manuals (APMs), Operating Instructions and Manuals (OIMs), and the NVLAP Quality Manual
- Support the development and delivery of training for NVLAP staff and assessors as needed and within timelines established by the NVLAP Chief
- Enter and manage accreditation data and deliverables within the NVLAP database system (Touchstone or equivalent)
Qualifications
Required:Â
- The ability to obtain a public trust with DoC/NIST
- Education: Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering or a closely related technical field
- Work Experience:
- 15 years' experience in a calibration laboratory
- 4 years' experience in ISO/IEC 17025 calibration accreditation services as a staff member of International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation Mutual Recognition Signatory accreditation body
- 4 years' experience with an accreditation software maintenance system, Touchstone or similar
- 15 years industry experience with calibration standards development or a metrology focused membership organization
- 10 years' experience as an assessor of calibration laboratories for an accreditation body that is an International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation Mutual Recognition Signatory.
