About the Opportunity

The Senior Project Accountant will be responsible for overseeing project financials, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, and partnering with project managers to monitor project performance and profitability through Work in Process (WIP) schedules. A strong background in accounting and project management is essential, as well as advanced Excel skills to analyze financial data effectively. Experience with Sage Intacct is preferred. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, acquisition-driven environment.

Job Duties

  • Maintain and reconcile WIP schedules, including tracking project costs, billings, and revenue recognition.
  • Analyze project financial performance, including budget vs. actuals and forecast updates.
  • Prepare and review monthly project financial reports for leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with revenue recognition standards (e.g., percentage of completion, cost-to-cost methods).
  • Collaborate with project managers to review project status, cost overruns, and billing accuracy.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Review contracts and change orders to ensure proper accounting treatment.
  • Prepare American Institute of Architects (AIA) billings for customers that require this format.
  • Assist with audits by providing supporting documentation and explanations for project-related balances.
  • Roll out processes to existing and acquired entities.
  • Identify process improvements related to project accounting and WIP reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in project accounting or construction/accounting environment.
  • Proven experience preparing and maintaining WIP schedules.
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis, and macros preferred).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct or similar ERP systems preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation

  • This is a salaried position based on experience. Pay is negotiable.
