McLean Contracting Company is looking for an experienced Deckhand to join our Smith Brothers team in the Galesville, MD area. The Deckhand carries out their duties and responsibilities under the direction of the captain, ensuring the safety and operation of the vessel.

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to, the following:

Handles lines to moor vessels to piers or other vessels.

Prepares lines for towing of floating equipment.

Washes decks and maintains all equipment pertaining to vessel.

Paints decks and superstructure of vessel.

Stands steering watches or lookout watches while underway.

Loads and unloads material from deck barges and scows.

Operates hand winches. Pulls heavy lines aboard vessels.

Sets an example in observance of Company policies and procedures; including safety.

Attends any safety or training classes as needed and provided.

Performs other job-related duties as may be required.

Furnishes and maintains tools to safely and efficiently perform work.

Cleans and maintains all tools to perform maintenance on equipment/vessel.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one (1) years related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be at least 18 years old, have reliable transportation to work and able to pass a Marine/Coast Guard physical/drug screen. Must be able to pass a Homeland Security background check to qualify for a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
