Job Title: CDL / Yard Driver

Department:  Logistics

Location:  Galt, IA

Reports To:  Packaging and Yard Manager

Job Type: Full-time 

Travel: Local

Compensation: Hourly

 

Job Summary:

The CDL / Yard Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation and delivery of goods to various locations. This role is crucial in maintaining excellent customer relations and ensuring timely deliveries, contributing to the organization's commitment to customer satisfaction and operational efficiency. 

Essential Job Functions 

  • Safely operate commercial equipment and trucks with a Class A CDL for transportation and delivery of goods. 
  • Load, unload, and relocate eggs, packaging, materials, parts, and/or other cargo   
  • Provide courteous customer service during delivery and pickup operations and follow-up communications 
  • Reconcile deliveries with invoices and accurately record product lot numbers 
  • Perform required vehicle maintenance checks and provide necessary reports   
  • Report safety concerns, equipment/vehicle issues, and other pertinent matters to the Transportation department 
  • Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed. 
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area 
  • Ensure compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) OSHA, and company safety programs 
  • Maintain a good driving record and report any driving violations 
  • Pass initial and random drug screenings, as well as bi-yearly DOT physical examinations 
  • Actively participate in and promote the company's safety culture by following safe work practices 

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) 

  • Proficient in operating commercial vehicles and equipment such as semi-trucks and pallet jacks. 
  • Strong communication and customer service skills. 
  • Ability to work efficiently in a team-oriented environment. 
  • Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations. 
  • Proficiency in using Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs). 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Must be at least 21 years of age. 
  • High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED), or equivalent. 
  • Minimum of 2 years of semi-driving experience. 
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in the foodservice or manufacturing delivery industry. 
  • Additional certifications related to transportation safety. 

 

Work Environment 

This position involves driving and delivering products, which requires standing, lifting, and working in various weather conditions. The role also demands adherence to safety protocols and the use of PPE.
