  • The position offers a salary of $75,000 to $95,000, depending on experience, and requires coordination with various stakeholders including project managers, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Additionally, the candidate must possess advanced AutoCAD skills, be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and be able to perform material take-offs and engineering calculations.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Develop and maintain detailed 2D/3D engineering and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD, including General 

Arrangement, structural, fabrication, and construction drawings.  

• Design and implement modifications to dredges, barges, vessels, marine construction equipment, systems, and tools. 

• Develop equipment layouts, construction details, engineering sketches, field modifications, and as-built drawings.  

• Review vendor drawings, verify field dimensions, and perform supporting engineering calculations, including FEA as 

required. 

• Manage engineering and fabrication projects from concept through completion.  

• Coordinate with Operations, Project Managers, Fabrication Supervisors, Vessel Managers, Port Captains, vendors, 

manufacturers, and subcontractors.  

• Develop and maintain project schedules using Microsoft Project, monitor milestones, budgets, costs, and procurement 

requirements.  

• Prepare technical specifications and material take-offs, support fabrication, installation, commissioning, and manage 

multiple projects simultaneously while identifying and mitigating project risks. 

• Prepare material take-offs, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and quantity estimates for steel, piping, structural components, 

and equipment.  

• Submit purchase requests and support procurement of project materials. 

• Prepare engineering and drawing packages, including FEA documentation, for submission to ABS, U.S. Coast Guard, and 

other regulatory agencies.  

• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, address agency comments, support inspections and certification 

activities, and maintain as-built drawings and compliance documentation. 

• Provide onsite support for dredge, vessel, and construction projects.  

• Verify installations against approved drawings, troubleshoot technical and structural issues, support dry dock and repair 

projects, and work closely with operations personnel to develop practical engineering solutions. 

• Prepare engineering reports, technical memoranda, specifications, procedures, work instructions, presentations, and 

project documentation.  

• Maintain engineering records, drawing revisions, and document control systems. 

•  Lead engineering and fabrication efforts on assigned projects and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.  

•  Mentor technical personnel and communicate effectively with project stakeholders, clients, vendors, fabrication teams, 

vessel management, and regulatory agencies.

Qualifications and Education Requirements 

 

The employee must have: 

Education 

Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or a related Engineering discipline.  

Professional Engineer (PE) registration is preferred but not required.  

Experience 

Minimum 5 years of experience in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or Marine Construction.  

Experience supporting shop fabrication, vessel, modifications and engineering projects.  

Experience with dredging equipment, barges or workboats is strongly preferred.  

Experience preparing engineering packages for ABS and U.S. Coast Guard approval.  

Experience performing field fabrication and engineering assignments.  

Technical Skills 

Advanced AutoCAD 2D.  

AutoCAD 3D experience.  

Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).  

Microsoft Project.  

Share Point. 

Ability to perform material take-offs and quantity estimates.  

Ability to interpret structural, mechanical and marine construction drawings.  

Knowledge of marine fabrication practices.  

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS 

The employee must perform the job's essential functions with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. 

 

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit 

within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal 

flotation devices (PFD’s), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done. 

In addition, the employee must also be capable of: 

• Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying 

heights and access parameters. 

• Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods 

of time. 

• Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work. 

• Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs individually. Anything greater than 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional lifting 

means. 

• Must be able to push and pull at peak force of 150lbs. 

• Climbing stairs and/or vertical ladders of a height of 6ft or greater. 

• Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights. 

• Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud 

noises, and vibration.
