Job DetailsJob Location: Ganado, AZ 86505Position Type: Full TimePosition Summary: Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director and Laboratory Manager, accomplishes the Laboratory’s strategic objectives by planning, organizing, and supervising the assigned functions required to operate and maintain departmental activities and services. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information. This list of duties and responsibilities is illustrative only of the tasks performed by this position and is not all-inclusive. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: •    Assists with management and oversight of the Clinical Laboratory Department functions and personnel in the absence of the Laboratory Manager. •    Provides day-to-day supervision of personnel performing high complexity and other testing. o    Responsible for:       Ensuring implementation of policies and procedures are followed in Microbiology and Blood Bank (high complexity testing)       Training new personnel, re-training when necessary, and teaching students •    Must be on-site to provide direct supervision when high complexity testing is performed by certain individuals. o    Responsible for:       Review of all results in Blood Bank and Microbiology to verify accuracy of technicians       Keep documentation and records according to CLIA, COLA, FDA, & AABB       Competently review all differentials with abnormal cells, before submission for Pathologist Slide Review. •    Monitors test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained which includes POC testing. o    Responsible for:     Review critical results, verify re-run of critical values and LIS documented critical calls according to CLIA and Joint Commission standards.     Specimen rejections documented and log reviewed monthly.     QC is verified, look for trends and determine if calibrations needed     Perform monthly QC summary of each department, including specimen rejection log, preventative maintenance, lot changes, trends of concern, repeated technical concerns, resolutions of deficiency in proficiency testing, pre/analytical/post errors root-cause analysis and action plans for Pathologist’s review       Recommend improvements to Policy, Processes and Procedures documented and reviewed monthly.     Verify that daily/weekly technician-check is performed for all manual entry methods.     Review proficiency testing, document corrective actions and method evaluation.     Ensure that methodology is updated according to the manufacturers’ specification for all analyzers.      Maintain inventory levels to meet expected testing volumes •    Fulfills certain responsibilities delegated by management such as: o    Resolve technical problems and ensure remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications.     Troubleshooting analyzers     Documenting the troubleshooting      Calling tech support when necessary to help troubleshoot     Know when to have tech support fix the issue o    Ensuring patient test results are not reported until all corrective action has been taken and the test system is functioning properly.  Review all      technicians/technologists results and verify appropriate actions were taken to resolve issues with samples or testing •    Performs routine laboratory analyses at acceptable levels of competency and in a timely manner. •    Utilize quality control procedures on a routine basis according to established policy. •    Perform phlebotomy as required. •    Ensures confidentiality of all employee drug/alcohol screening records and other information. •    Attends to Manager duties as assigned during the absence of the Laboratory Manager. •    Hosts and attends regular staff meetings to ensure communication among personnel regarding program-related activities.  •    Maintains professional and technical knowledge by conducting research; attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences. •    Participates in CPR, Infection Control, Patient Safety and Fire Safety Trainings. •    Complies with Personnel Policies and Procedures •    Maintains strict confidentiality •    Performs other duties as required.Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: MT or MLS certification with ASCP, AMT, HEW, or an equivalent laboratory certification from military/government service. Five (5) years of professional experience demonstrating progressive Clinical Laboratory experience in all areas of the laboratory: Point Of Care, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry, Molecular, Coagulation, Body Fluids, etc. Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or Medical Laboratory Science from a NAACLS-approved program required •    Must be able to successfully pass the Employee Health Program requirements and background investigation.     Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications: •    Knowledge of applicable tribal, federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, including Joint Commission Accreditation, AABB, FDA and CMS. •    Knowledge of CDC, ADHS and College of American Pathologists standards, rules statutes and regulations. •    Knowledge of company policies and procedures. •    Knowledge of infectious and metabolic diseases. •    Knowledge of CPR, Infection Control, Patient Safety, Emergency Codes and Fire Safety. •    Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and mathematics. •    Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing with staff and the general public. •    Ability to perform all duties of a Medical Technologist, performing complex tasks beyond the skills of a technician. •    Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels. •    Ability to work effectively with individuals and demonstrate leadership and team-building skills with empathy and enthusiasm. •    Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. •    Ability to speak the Navajo language and/or familiarity with the Navajo Way. •    Ability to create and present effective speeches and presentations. •    Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines. •    Ability to make solid decisions and exercise independent judgment. •    Ability to demonstrate excellence in everything, and continually seek improvement in results. •    Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements. •    Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint). •    Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing reports. •    Skill in providing leadership too, supervising, training, and evaluating assigned staff. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to walk.  The employee occasionally is required to stand; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 50 pounds. Work Environment: Work is generally performed in an office with moderate noise level. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
